With Patfull on his way to the Giants or Sydney I think it's a good way to get them involved.

Pies lose: Beams, 28
Pies gain: pick 4, Mitchell

Bris gain: Beams, 28
Bris lose: Pick 4, Leuenberger, Patfull

Syd gain: Leuenberger, Patfull
Syd lose: Mitchell

Or

Pies gain: Hoskin-Elliott, O'Rourke, 24
Pies lose: Beams, 45

Bris gain: Beams, 45
Bris lose: pick 4, 24, Patfull

GWS gain: pick 4, Patfull
GWS lose: Hoskin-Elliott, O'Rourke

Don't want to besmirch the sanctity of a Jay Clark trade rumour article but Patfull's manager just tipped a bucket of cold water on the rumour of him demanding a trade.

Said that Patfull Is thinking of moving to Sydney when his career is over but if the club wanted to move him on he would listen to offers from Sydney clubs but in the meantime, they are discussing contract extensions with Brisbane despite him already having another year to run.

This article is from a month ago FWIW... Doesnt sound like a dude who wants out.

Merrett in the other hand might be moved on, he is in a frustrating rut and a change could be good for all parties. GWS or the Suns might be interested which could create opportunities in the Beams trade.

Probably time to remove Leuenberger from trade hypotheticals though, he pretty much lost his tradeable status when the Ryder thing didn't happen.

Except there is a difference between starting negotiations with "this is my offer", and starting them with "this is my only offer - you aren't getting any more... I'll just walk away" - which is what I'm hearing coming out of the Brisbane camp in the media. (I would hope that's not how their actual offer goes behind closed doors - because that will end very quickly and Dayne will have another year in Melbourne... but I don't see the point of coming out so strongly in the media... compare it to Hines/Bucks who have been careful to be very vague but also open to discussion - which is how the public side of these things should go until you are close to a deal)
Dean Warren clearly said that is the offer -at this stage-.

I could paraphrase the Buckley response as "I will only do the trade if we get Danger we aren't getting any less... I'll just walk away" but that is not what he actually said.

Both clubs are just going through the motions right now.

- 5X800k is a lot of coin and would head turn a lot of blokes
You can't look at it that way.

Sure, 800K might seem like a lot of money to you and it certainly is a lot of money for me.

But is it a lot of money for Beams?

What would he be paid at Collingwood if he stayed? ... Hardly peanuts. Any extra $ he'd get by going to Brisbane, take out 10% which goes to his manager, then another 45% which goes to the taxman.

I'm confident that his quality of life will be changed more by being up in Brisbane and being around his family ... Than it would getting extra disposable income of, I dunno, $50K?

800k isn't much to you? What a churl.

I think 3% is more the manager fee.

Dean Warren's only dealing with the media atm mate... Hine hasn't heard from him yet. So ATM he can bang his chest and make all the big statements he wants, but in the end he's gonna have to satisfy the HINEMEISTER and that's where the game will get interesting. Hine just calmly pointed out "yep we have a contract with Dayne"....the ball is totally in Brisbane's court.

And didn't Bucks say he'd take pick 4 and Hanley? That was my recollection.

The two answers are in no way mutually exclusive.
so you think a trade that doesn't include some sort of young talent will be equal value for a top 10-15 midfielder?
You guys seem to overrate your "culture" and the quality of your young players. On the one hand you have two veterans reportedly wanting out, and on the the other you are reportedly chasing Mitch Robinson.
Patfull and Merrett are both quality players but will not get you anything of value in return - and will be of no use to us.
Your top 2 draft picks are not enough (IMO) nor are they what we are looking for... plus your team seems to think Pick 4 on it's own is adequate.
If you want to use those picks to find a 3rd party that can offer us something anywhere near the equivalent of Beams - good luck on that... but the onus is on you guys to make it work. If you can't find a 3rd party, then without throwing in a quality young player - I doubt you will get Beams this summer.

Brisbane know they have to make a credible offer just as much as Collingwood know they are not getting Danger.
I'm not expecting Dangerfield as he is contracted. If he wanted to come, and he hasn't said he does, I can't imagine we'd be hanging on to all of the young South Australians on our list.

If he wanted to come, I think Scharenberg and pick 4 is a good deal for him, not as good as pick 2 and 3 Melbourne will offer but if he said strictly he wants to come to Collingwood that would be my offer for him.

Doubt Adelaide would like it though, pick 4 (don't know who it is) and a bloke who would be out for the season next year and would have missed two full AFL seasons through injuries.

Scaharenbergs value would have diminished big time after that ACL injury on top of the two feet surgeries he had.

That is a massive slap by Hine and Collingwood showing the football world that Warren/Brisbane have not have the decency to speak to the very club that Beams is still contracted to.

Positive response from the club reiterating that we will not roll over and be dictated to by either the Lions or Connors.

I've been wondering about Scharenberg. Do we have an estimate on when he'll be back? An ACL does not take 12 months, it's more like 6 months, so he should be able to play by about the middle to late season. Look at Falcao - he did his ACL in about January and was almost in the Colombian World Cup squad.

He did his ACL in august so he could be back before May.

Krakouer in 2012 did his ACL in february and played finals (in which he was very good)

Brisbane clearly are not very good at this trading game. Can't wait til next year when another bunch of players walk on them and they move on to the next coach.
