What a load of bollocks. There is nothing to be gained by forcing a player to stay against his will when he is free to walk for nothing 12 months down the track. Top five picks dont grow on trees. The last one we has was Pendlebury. Why the hell would we give up 5, 25 and a tall young skilled player to try and prove a point to an opposition club that we didnt like their deal? ? What point woudl we be proving anyway? To think it will scare other clubs into dealing with us more fairly in the future is a complete nonsense.

The best point to prove is the old adage....If youre not with us youre aggin us. Tell the players that if they dont want to play for Collingwood then they are free to go. Its not as if we have got much out of Beams in the past two seasons anyway. Steady and reliable at best.
What was the point of the deadline?

I am not so much annoyed at the trade more annoyed at how the wheels seem to be falling off at the club its becoming a problem and anybody who doesn't think we have issues well i feel sorry for you

Either fix that issue or get rid of the people at top who are causing these issues
I think that this issue has been caused by Beams...hence we should get rid of him...you are right.

Not the first player who has been unhappy at the club or wanted out in the last 2 years not even Essendon who did all the peptide injections to the players have had as many player issues as us.

Not going to overstate Crisp's worth unnecessarily guys, but he is a pretty useful player. He'll definitely get games and I think if he was given a role that suits his style in a well drilled, well-funded outfit he might surprise a few supporters.

(If he ends up at Collingwood).
Most people on this board wouldnt have the first clue about him. I certainly dont but I'm prepared to have an open mind. His stats are quite good and his height is what we need.

Until they changed from a transfer system to a draft trade scenario there was a lot of club movement. I only have to look at the recruiting in the early 80s and i cringe.. We had a feud with Richmond and they went poaching our players and we tried to pinch theirs. up to 10 - 15 changed sides.
Once they changed to drafting it was a lot harder to trade players and clubs were more settled. In 1990 we basically built a great team from a really good under 19 team, Now free agency has set in players have a lot more freedom to move but its nowhere near as bad as it was in the olden days. But remember we had to trade to get Nathan Buckley and Anthony Rocca to the club too.
This is pretty much what I was thinking about when I mentioned that I think things have changed.

Chelsea, Steelers.
Can Brisbane fans please stop coming here telling how much 'potential' Crisp has, everybody on a list has potential and he has shown nothing to say he is anything special.

I understand you are all happy about pulling off the steal of the century, but you know as well as I do that while Crisp has some good attributes he is not currently an AFL standard player and there is a good chance he will never be, seeing as he will already be 22 for next season and has yet to prove anything.

So basically in his best string of games he's shown that:

- He can get an average amount of the ball, nothing special
- He can't tackle
- He can't kick
- He can occasionally slot a goal but is about as accurate as Cloke
- He doesn't get the hard ball

No wonder he was one of Brisbane's untouchables.
He was playing on a half forward flank in a side that had a couple of huge losses in a couple of games. He can certainly tackle and win the hard ball. But yes, kicking needs work.

To tell Brisbane "we will shop Beams around to other clubs unless you sweeten the offer". Which they have.
It's hardly "sweetening" the offer when they throw the list clogger they'd have to get rid of anyway our way as if it's some grandiose gesture.

The only hope we have is that another club will come to the party - otherwise we'll end up the laughing stock of the AFL and you can rest assured that any other interstate kids we develop into stars will be approached by clubs from their home state in exactly the same way, even though they still have more than 12 months to run on their contract, and get them to request a move home for "personal reasons" just like Brisbane appear to have done with Beams.

They've thought this through very well if the scuttlebutt about them putting the wheels in motion on Beams mid-season has any basis in fact - if that is the case then they've picked a perfect spot where the obvious local rival might be struggling for cap space and have thus (again allegedly) surreptitiously gotten in Beams ear by whatever channels necessary to lay it all out for him and get him to commit to a fat contract from them and them only.

Crisp is the equivalent of Ramsay in trade terms.
Limited time in the seniors, shown some signs, but at the end of the day, nobody's sure if they'll make it.

Why we would be happy bringing in a player like that for Beams is beyond me...

Christ, even Port were able to get two first round picks for Burgoyne. This deal sucks, and anyone saying otherwise is delusional.

Where would Crisp go in this draft? Around 30-40 region?

So we r getting 5,25,35 for beams

Great trading collingwood, all talk as usual
30-40 is being genorous. I would say 3rd or 4th round pick. Brisbane would be laughing if we took the offer.
