Exactly. If he is fit and firing. One of the first picked every week.

If we can get Beams and Sier up and about our midfield will take on a very different and more menacing look.

Idk tbh...

C: Sidebottom ~ Pendlebury ~ Phillips
R: Grundy ~ Treloar ~ Adams

This seems like our most optimal set up and what we prefer heading into round 1. Even if we have De Goey settling in the forward line, we also have Sier, Brown and Wills knocking on the doors of our secondary midfield rotation, who are all much better fits than Beams to our midfield.

We have seen how much better our team balance is with Wills/2018 Sier in our midfield engine winning the contested ball, performing well in the clearances and applying tackling pressure consistently. Keep in mind this happened despite Wills' largely limited other attributes.

Having a big bodied inside mid also unleashes Pendlebury/Treloar/Adams to be more creative with our delivery inside 50 and we won't be relying on Grundy as much to break even in the middle.

For your information, I do have Beams in our best 22, although on our bench and part of our secondary midfield/forward rotation. Perhaps we could trial him at half back, or have him take Pendles' spot with the latter playing half back, or having him play on the wing opposite to Phillips and having sidebottom move to half forward, then who loses a spot out of WHE/De Goey/Stephenson/Elliot/Thomas who are all specialist forwards?...

Beams is best played as an offensive midfield just like Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Treloar. We can only play 3 onballers at any stage, and probably need at least one of Adams/Sier/Wills to provide the grunt to complement our big 4.

In response to a poster above, yes a fit Beams will get a game at almost every club. However, Collingwood with so many quality and similar typed midfielders is probably where he is closest to NOT being featured in the best 22.

Mid week drinking is never a good idea! A half rat power version of Beams (2019) has those three covered let alone a mentally and physically refreshed version.

TBH if Beams comes back anywhere near his best then he squeezes Pendles onto a wing. Which is something we probably need to start implementing given he’s 32 as of Rd 1.

Couldn't agree more.

I understand that Beamer had a 2019 that we would all like to forget but putting Sier, Brown and Wills forward as better fits to our midfield is criminally underrating him. 🤦‍♂️

I’m hoping he comes back, mentally and physically refreshed and keen to do the work required.

at his best he is an elite talent but he’s no kid anymore and he will need to put the work in.

i for one think he will and looking forward to it.

I think 7 midfielders is the minimum you want in the team - 3 across the centre line, rover, ruck rover, 2 bench spots. I don't think you'd want less than 7, but there's room for more, because your forward flanks can be midfielders, as can your back flanks.

I agree with most of that, but your very first sentence is way off. It's usually a great idea; going to work the following day is the bad idea.

Agree, 7 is the absolute minimum. Phillips and Sidey are aerobic beasts and they only averaged 88.88% and 87.30% TOG respectively in 2019. Pendles next best at 82.71%. All other "mids" less than 80%. It's why rotations from Elliott, Thomas and JDG become so important as it means you don't need to load the bench with any more mids than necessary. Hopefully Brown is able to assume more of that work in 2020.

The more you drink, the better the idea becomes.

I know I gave this post a like Sco because I'm a big Beams fan, but sometimes you are just plain wrong mate. :beercheers::beermug:

Is this a club side thing or individual players? If it’s a club thing then they are going to puma for the boots

Side deal. We’ve never been aligned with NB. He’s had quite a few boot sponsors over the years! I loved the Warriors back in the day.

Totally agree.
Sier has played 5 or 6 decent games in 4 or 5 years, yet is spoken about as some sort of mythical beast.
Wills played a couple of good games last year, but while he is tough and can tackle, goes to ground too often and isn’t attacking at all.
Brown, while improving still has a lot more to do and get involved for 4 qtr rather than show something in 1 qtr and then do little.

I have been critical of the recruitment of Beams, however, he is on such another level than those 3 players that it’s laughable they are in the same conversation with a fit Beams.

Agree, just when you give him the benefit of the doubt about his mental illness and even cut him a break, he comes out with something as childish as this statement.
I still struggle to believe it is all about a depressive illness. Psychologists guide patients towards positive affirmations and their treatment encourages patients to avoid negative self talk and negativity in general. I know from experience.
For Beams to put something like this out there for attention, is childish and does not fit the regular type of self treatment for depression.

Seems there are plenty of people out there itching to dig the boots in over s**t that doesn’t really matter.
I don't get it. If players are commenting about shoes, positive remarks about Birkenstocks are the only footwear related comments that should result in fan condemnation.
