Every now and again a publisher gets their long-running series so entangled and contradictory they have to make up some big event to untangle it all.

This stuff is not really entertaining to me. It is laboured and overly convoluted.

In DCs case it also included a purple death ray, the lamest thing to appear in comics since The Blue Beetle.

LOL.

While I thought that IC was fairly anti-climactic, I kind of enjoyed the ride. BUT...given the build up with the four pre-IC mini's (and the fact that it was a sequel to COIE), I was sort of hoping for more.

So far (for me) the biggest positives out of IC have been the reset for Supes and Batman, and they could only be described as "soft".

I'm especially enjoying what Grant Morrison and Paul Dini have been doing with Batman. Its cheeky now. No more of the Miller-verse Batman (for the time being). And both characters are getting about in their secret identities alot more too, which I'm a huge wrap for.

Kurt Busiek has been doing a great job (imo) writing Supes in Action Comics, but that run has now ended. For those who don't know, Richard Donner is co-scripting Action with Geoff Johns, starting this week. The solits sound pretty cool too.

Some things I don't get though. While I can see a need to "fix" aspects of some character and Universe-wide continuity, I'm not sure if I undertand the need for company wide crossovers (other than publishers wanting to make more money) to facilitate them. eg, Aquaman-I didn't think there was anything wrong with the character (aside from being a bit lame). Having said that though, I'm enjoying Busiek's "Conan of the Seas" tale. I just don't know if they needed IC/52 to bring it about. The Flash is another example of this. Nothing wrong with Wally-now we've got Bart. And I still don't understand why they had to bring back Donna Troy from the dead.

It all gives Fanboys/girls something to jizz over I guess.

52 hasn't been too bad. Only about 3 or 4 cr@ppy issues from a weekly comic is pretty good going, but I guess you've got to want to like it (which I do). It has some cool surprises in it. I wasn't planning on giving it more than around 10-12 issues, but I'm hooked now.

The Justice League relaunch has also been fairly neat, but I think the pacing needs to pick up a little.

I've dropped a few DC titles since IC though, mainly to allow my budget some room for the Wildstorm relaunch (which has been cool and refreshing so far). Gen13, WildCATS and the Authority are faves of mine anyway, but to have them being presented by kick@rse creative teams is even better. Can't wait for the new series of Deathblow (out this week).

Its great to be a nerd.:thumbsu:

Purple Death Ray ! Cool ! Seriously I have given up on DC (and Marvel) doing their "big event" type series to "change" everything. I will continue to buy the comics that I like and ignore most of these "events". Maybe i'll buy the collection in a few years time.

I'm a died in the wool Marvel Zombie, but I did buy Infinite Crisis and thought it was pretty good. It kinda ran out of steam at the end, but overall it was decent. It's definitely one of those books that read better in one sitting rather than in monthly installments. I haven't been reading 52 because it's just too much of a big investment, though I may pick up the eventual trade.

Though IC was a tad confusing and overwhelming, the whole One Year Later thing did kick the Superman and Batman titles into gear after several years of malaise. Grant Morrison is doing to Batman what he did with New X-men and it's bloody terrific.

On the whole, I'd rate Marvel's Civil War ahead of IC, since it is much more reader friendly and more based in reality, whereas IC is all about multiverses and earth primes and such... Civil War is the type of book I'd give to a non-comic fan, while IC is more of a fanboy wet dream...
