Demo out on the US store, not sure if our one has updated yet. 1400ish mb, will be downloading soon along with the 2400mb ME2 demo!

Played the demo and my reaction is.....meh been there done that, i know its only a demo but the first one had a better atmosphere and the game felt unique, this just reeks of thrown together cheap sequel....more of an expansion pack really.

Then you have the unnecessary multiplayer they have chucked in (not included on demo) that i can imagine will be about as fun and as popular as Bioshock 2 online. Its a no buy for me, makes my January LBP2 only so far.

HBK I read that but that doesn't answer my question. I was under the impression we'd be getting it the day after the US ie the 22nd. I keep checking PSN but it's still not there, neither is Mass Effect 2.

I guess it's the 23rd then?

Generally AU PS Store updates on Thursday's or Friday's (usually very early Friday, like 2am).

If you're so desperate for them, get yourself a US PS account and download them there. They're the exact same demo's and fully playable on any account.

Lol I'm not desperate for them. I was just expecting them to come out on the 22nd. I don't mind waiting until Friday.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsu:

I've been playing the demo for Dead Space 2 for the last couple of hours and it's awesome! One of the few games that's lived up to the hype. Dismembering Necromorphs never gets old. The graphics are excellent as well. Higly recommended. I'll be pre-ordering this.

I want the demo but I think I'll just wait for the game. Want it to be a totally fresh experience when I first play it. I don't need a demo to get me pumped about this, I already cant wait for it!

If you've seen the E3 vid/s then you pretty much play through that, with only a minor bit at the start that wasn't included in the E3 vid.

It's worth giving it a run through just to test out and feel all the little nuances and new things that Visceral have done to improve DS this time around. I even loved the new 'direction guide' that has been given a smoothing over.:p But things like smoother, quicker camera movements as well as copious amounts more blood and dismemberment show off the new improvements. As someone who played through DS1 almost 3 times I know that game inside out, so all the new little touches and stuff are awesome to see (as it's a bit of "I would've done that!" if I had the choice to pick out annoying things or things that needed to be tweaked - for example the punching/melee has been vastly improved and has a use now too, something that was shit in the first game).

There's plenty more enemies this time around too (those little baby things go down in an instant with a horrific cry!).

Also a great thing now is that there's incentive to stomping up your enemy after they're dead, as you now get loot from them!

Absolutely LOVED the intro to the demo too.

Have to say though Premiers04, how can you already be on the 'been there, done that' train of thought? Not to mention how is it different to, say a COD which you've poured plenty of hours in to. It's been more than 2 years since the original Dead Space came out, so there's hardly been a quick thrown together development period, on top of that there's been almost nothing close to Dead Space in the survival horror genre to really be bored of this type of game already.

While the MP might be a dud, there's no doubt in my mind that the SP will be absolutely fantastic.

IGN review in, 9/10. This year has got off to a rip roaring start, ME2 PS3 at 96 on Metacritic, LBP2 at 92/93 and Dead Space 2 looks like it will have improved from 88/89 to 90+ score. HUGE YEAR so far and we're NOT EVEN 1 MONTH IN!!

Although I do think Greg Miller needs to learn the definition of lasting appeal...

DEAD SPACE 2 IGN REVIEW
Closing Comments

Dead Space 2 is more than just an action game and it's more than a survival horror game -- it's a game that tells a really personal story about a guy who has been seriously scarred by the events around him. That premise alone makes it interesting, but Visceral Games melds it with rewarding combat, shocking enemies, and huge set pieces before tossing it into a world that's truly creepy and scary. I didn't find multiplayer that interesting and would've liked to have seen Isaac stop being an errand boy, but none of that spoils what you're getting here. The shocking moments, the gruesome deaths, and the fun of playing through this experience again and again are what I took away from this one.

Dead Space 2 is an excellent game, and it's well worth your time and money.

9.0 Presentation
The game's scary and creepy. The internal Isaac story is awesome. I could've done for a better driving force than that of the Marker.

8.5 Graphics
The game is lit in a way that amplifies the atmosphere and Isaac looks great. Some blocky blood and stiff animations, though.

9.5 Sound
Isaac's voice is good. The score is nearly perfect. The creaks of the Sprawl and moans of the Necromorphs meld for maximum scares.

9.0 Gameplay
Isaac's arsenal and adventure are fun but familiar. Improvements like a stasis refill button and better melee are welcome.

9.5 Lasting Appeal
Multiplayer is nothing special, but the game is a bit more than 10 hours. Different suits, upgrades and difficulties kept me coming back.

OVERALL 9.0

Yeah you're right HBK, this year will definetly be a good year for games unlike the lackluster year last year.
YEP, before may/june come round there would of been double the amount of top titles released than there was all of last year imo.

Im going to have to play the first one i think, been looking at some of the vids of DS2 and it has sucked me in.

the game sounds like a ripper. although i'm not sure if i would want to splash out on it considering i dont have XBL at the moment. Played the first Dead Space last week to get a refresher on the story.

Has everyone seen the video that told the story from prior to the 1st game? Quite good also.

The MP isn't really said to be overly great. Could probably do without XBL for this game.

The re-cap of Dead Space from the Dead Space 2 demo is absolutely fantastic, one of the best re-caps you could want.

Cheers. Yeah i was just wondering if they had to cut back a little on the SP side of it to include the MP. I was actually comparing it a little to BioShock2 in that sense.

*cries* I want the demo. Really can't wait to eventually play the game though, i always thought Dead Space was the hidden gem of 2008 considering it was released around the same time as Fallout3, Gears of War 2 and Modern Warfare 2. It had a bit of competition, i reckon it was overlooked a fair bit. IMO.

One thing i hope they improved on was the weapon side of it. It was quite easy to go through the first one just using the plasma cutter without the need for even bothering with the others.

Bought this online last night, as I do want the replica plasma cutter. No idea when it's getting in, I've got conflicting emails, one that says it's been sent and one that says it's on backorder. Hopefully I'll have it within 2 weeks (I went the 6-10 day shipping option). Was $97 sent too (for the FULL Collector's Edition - Plasma Cutter, Lithograph, Soundtrack, Dead Space Extraction et al).

Where from tiger?

I've got $60 of eb vouchers to use, will be picking it up tomorrow with a pricematch, hopefully bigw/kmart/target have it for $80-90 so I can get it for under $30. Might wait until nightime to play with a headset. Extra underwear may be needed

I think BigW has it for $88

Dead Space was great... for the $10 I spent on it on Steam. But it was a very linear game with crummy plot and characters and it felt like the result of throwing four or five other games into a blender and seeing what bits stuck together.

So while I will admit to being excited about all these positive reviews for DS2, I can't help but remember that this is pretty much what people were saying about DS1. Hopefully I'll find out how close I am once the price comes down to a reasonable level (or even an unreasonable one... say $10?)
