Dead Space was great... for the $10 I spent on it on Steam. But it was a very linear game with crummy plot and characters and it felt like the result of throwing four or five other games into a blender and seeing what bits stuck together.

So while I will admit to being excited about all these positive reviews for DS2, I can't help but remember that this is pretty much what people were saying about DS1. Hopefully I'll find out how close I am once the price comes down to a reasonable level (or even an unreasonable one... say $10?)

Are you saying I will get bored of this game quicky? I am easily influenced, so tell me now before I trade Black Ops in for this game!

I'll be picking this up today. Never finished #1 but I think it was because I knew the story, having wiki'ed it beforehand. Although, I do freak out in a similar fashion to this guy albeit not that badly :p

Got my Collector's Edition today.

Now first thing I got was a code for Dead Space Ignition, since I've got this already does anyone want it? It's nothing fantastic, but it's a bit of alright for free and you get about 2 hours worth of gameplay (and an unlock for DS2 as well).

Send me a PM if you want the code, otherwise I'll chuck the code up in about 24 hours for anyone to get in first and use (PS3 version obviously).

That was pretty quick, about a week?

I just started playing this game, and I have jumped out of my seat twice already! I'm gonna have a heart attack.

Well, actually I had to change my order. The ***** at CD Universe discontinued the Collector's Edition so I was forced to cancel my order and get a refund.

Quickly put a new order on at PlayAsia for the version there and chucked an extra $9 on it to get it here express (ordered it late Thursday).

Was annoyed, but lucky enough to get an order on at PlayAsia still for under what I would've payed for what would've been a lesser version at EB Games.

Code for Dead Space Ignition is here.

Now I actually think this can be used for 360 as well as PS3 if you so choose.

Anyway follow the instructions for a free copy of Dead Space Ignition.

  • Go to http://dsignition.com/
  • Choose USA or UK English (don't think it matters, I chose UK English when I did this initially)
  • Enter EA Account details
  • Choose PS3 or 360
  • Enter this code: H47F-MVMC-NEEJ-FZDG
  • From there you get a code to enter on either PSN or XBL whichever one you chose.
  • Redeem the code on PSN or XBL and you get your free copy.
:)

On a separate note and post. Boy this game starts off well.

Although very similar to Dead Space in it's start it also has a really different flow. It's faster and more visceral.

Also have to say that I'm loving Isaac talking, he may not be doing anything to push his character forward all that much, but he says EXACTLY what you're thinking. Whether it's stomping the shit out of a necromorph corpse and hearing his "****, ****, ****, ****!" or whether there's an explosion or swarm of necropmorph coming at you and hearing him say "SHIT!!!" it's just the perfect implementation from Dead Space.

The engine as well has to be commended from Visceral, easily the best multiplatform engine going around. Absolute perfection personified.

Just wasted an hour blasting ultra-zombies. Great game.

Back into the games mate? Seem to remember you deleted your back catalogue some time back

One section in this game...I don't want to ruin it, but it is THE MOST tense and atmospheric level I have ever played.

The only thing is, you need to have played Dead Space to really get the most out of that. That's all I'll say.;)

I think I'm getting close to the end of the game. I dread going up difficulty levels as the game is surprisingly hard as it is (although to be fair I really don't use stasis as much as I should). The hardest difficulty has a crazy stipulation to it that you can only save the game 3 times maximum throughout the campaign and when you die, you go back to the last save...!

I hardly used stasis. Probably why I died so much!

Lol, **** that shit

Like the original Tomb raider that only allowed you to save at specific points that were miles apart. Had a few more than 3 tho!

just completed this game. Just phenomenal. A well thought out and written story with the perfect blend of action and horror. Some of the most fun I have had in a while! what part are you talking about HBK?
The chapter where you head back to the Ishimura...pure awesome, extremely well done.

Finished this the other night. Great game, definitely improved on the first in almost every way.

Going to try it on the level higher difficulty, but I really doubt I'll even be able to complete Zealot let alone Hardcore (the 3 save only one).

The last 'mission' had me running out of ammo on 3 of my 4 guns several times, with even less ammo and health in the higher difficulties I can see it getting a bit ridiculous.

Tried out the MP. It's a bit of fun, but really nothing substantial or going to hold your attention for too long. There's not much to it really, the mode I played was a bit bland as well. The Necromorphs are severely underpowered too.

Sorry to bump an old thread. But i am playing this now. ****ing hell it is scary.

I am really making the most of it by only playing it when it's dark, turning the lights out and putting the volume up. Haha, I'm only up to Chapter 7 or so and playing it on Normal, i was going to try Hardcore, but i'm kind of glad i stuck with normal, i've had a few difficult moments and have had trouble keeping enough health. lol. I'm with HBK that i can only imagine how ridiculous it might be on Zealot.

I've flirted with going back on Zealot a number of times. Dead Space 1 & 2 remain as the only games this gen that I have gone back and completed the single player straight away after finishing the first time.

Unfortunately Dead Space 3 is looking like a dud, so maybe I'll crack out Dead Space 2 again and go for the Zealot once and for all! But I know I will wuss out in the end. I just don't know how I would do it, maybe I'll youtube some playthroughs and see what they did and see if I can attempt it.

I don't even want to think about Hardcore.:eek::oops:

Definitely the right way to play it though at night with the volume up (using headsets? Very good with headsets).

I guarantee i'll give it a go on Zealot. Well..... maybe. But Hardcore at least anyway. Not much of an achievement whore anymore, but i'm getting Xbox Live again soon and wouldn't mind playing it through again to 'register' it in a way.

Not using headsets to be honest, but i'm still getting the full effect of scares etc... I actually got ahead of myself when i said i was up to Chapter 7 in my previous post, i think it was more the tail end of Chapter 5 or the begining of Chapter 6. I think the ONLY downside to this game might be that you don't know when 1 chapter ends, and when another begins like you did in the 1st game.

I've spent 4.5 hours getting up to where i am (just took down the AI) and i reckon i could have done it in 3 so far but i spend so much time crawling around corners. No better example than when i first ran into those exploding babies in the nursery i found myself using kinesis to carry around one of the toy globes of the world whilst inching around the area. Took me a bit before i thought to myself "What the hell am i doing?"

I actually like the new adaption of the Zero-G feature in the game A LOT more than in the first. Like you say, there has been quite a lot of improvements over the first, that's one of the main ones. The suit looks good too, although i've only unlocked the 2nd upgrade.

Thoroughly enjoying it, i am really surprised it was released 18 months ago, i am so late to the party.

It really sucks that the 3rd game is shaping up to be a dud. A real shame actually because this is shaping up to be one of the best trilogies i've played.

This game is getting better by the minute.

"You should stick around, i'm full of bad ideas"

then he heads onto the Ishimura. Just up to the first save after getting on board the Ishimura and it's just like i remember it. :thumbsu: Well, the layout anyway!

Best part of the game for me. Until I played Amnesia early this year, it was easily the most atmospheric and tense levels I had ever played in gaming.

I finished it. Phenomenal game. The last few chapters are just unbelievably intense. My heart didn't stop pounding the entire time. I'm going to have to wait until i settle down a bit, because i'm almost going to say it's up there with the epicness of the Gears of War 2 campaign. lol. And i really hate those bastards that regenerate. I couldn't get away from them long enough to catch my breath.

I'm kind of surprised this thread is only 3 pages long and there isn't really any thoughts on the game apart from me, HBK and bok. Has anyone else played this? If not, you're missing out. The SP is outstanding.

Edit: There is no way i'm touching this game on Zealot either! Haha.
