Picked it up from JB Hi-Fi last week for $35 after spending two years working up the courage to play it, enjoying it thus far. Only complaint is, on my shitty tv, I can't read the text logs.

Chucked this back in the other night after having a bit of a FIFA WC overload and feeling the need for some real visceral (pun not intended...the dev is 'Visceral Games' for those who are wondering wtf is that pun about) action. As well as wanting to get the game finished in preperation for both Extraction coming out later this year and Dead Space 2 early next year with Dead Space 2 looking like being one of the real contenders for GOTY 2011.

Have really enjoyed it so far since picking it back up. Is really confusing at first picking it up as the control scheme is very in-depth and there's a lot of stuff to get your head around initially (Stasis and Kinesis especially) but as the game has gone on I've found myself getting more and more into it.

I re-started my campaign at Chapter 6, which really playing through it was the perfect mission to begin again on as it's one of the longest and offers up quite a number of different gameplay options throughout that one chapter.

I just finished Chapter 10 tonight and will move onto the final 2 Chapters over the coming nights (HAS TO BE PLAYED AT NIGHT:D).

I love the 2 sections in the game that allow you to just take a moment out and have a little fun (
Zero-G Basketball and the Shooting Gallery
) it's a nice moment in between all the srs bsns of the regular game.

One thing I am REALLY impressed with as well are the production values. This really has a "blockbuster movie" feel to it and I'd say the only game to really trump the production values would be probably God of War and Uncharted. The entire feel of the game is just fantastic, very atmospheric, perfect amount of scares to action and bringing these epic moments to the game at unexpected turns, the puzzles really show this ten fold too, fantastic puzzle sections. Some fantastic little touches here and there in regards to visuals as well, very polished visual style.

The boss battles are probably the only real let down in the game, along with some weapons that are a little sub-par (I have found myself using the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun and Pulse Rifle basically throughout the entire campaign, the others are a bit weak or annoying to use).

Finished the story last night. Was a really, really good game. A very solid 8.5-9/10 game.

The thing that really stands out with Dead Space is that it really is a labour of love for Visceral and not only have they created an expansive world for the game but it's all so very well thought out.

With Dead Space, Dead Space: Downfall (an animated movie prequel to Dead Space), Dead Space Extraction, Dead Space Ignition (a downloadable title coming to PSN and XBL bridging the gap from Dead Space to Dead Space 2 coming out before Dead Space 2 releases) and Dead Space 2 as well as an official Dead Space movie set for 2013 there really is such a huge world that Dead Space stands for and you can really feel it in everything that is the initial Dead Space game.

A really, really well thought out and well polished title is what Dead Space brings and a shitload of scares in between (there's times when they scare you into thinking there's a scare coming up only to have you let down your guard thinking it's all ok, then BAM you get a monster jumping out from a vent minutes later). Gameplay is very slick and the controls, although a bit to get your head around at first actually work really well and tie nicely into the survival horror element of the game.

For a title that has been as low as about $30 in regular sales this is WELL worth a pick up. It might only be a single player title and you run into an issue with replayability when the New Game+ like option only allows you to run through with the same weapons/upgrades/suits on the exact same difficulty when you get an unlock after finishing it. But it's definitely a title worth picking up if you are finding yourself running low on new titles to play.

Playing through this again. Seems like it gets better every time, really holds up well after all these years (5-6 years is an eternity in the gaming industry IMO) Just love everything about the Dead Space series. Isaac as a character, i really bond with him. The controls suit the game A LOT, i can't really put my finger on it, but i just feels right.

If i could find one downside to this it would be that you don't need any other gun other than the plasma cutter. But in a way that could be a good thing, it doesn't come across as an intimidating weapon, seems like a pistol in relation to a standard weapon. Which to me gives it that extra elemental towards the scare factor.

The soundtrack is hauting and i couldn't think of any other music that i've heard that would complement a game like Dead Space. Gah, i could go on about Dead Space forever. But its comfortably my favourite trilogy ever.

I only played this through for the first time a few months back and I agree that it has stood the test of time very well.

My only gripe was with the story line: every time you fixed something, something else broke. Quickly became frustrating.
