In my sport we have a driver representitive who mediates between drivers and the clerk/comp sec. What i'm getting out of this is this is a role bailey is taking between the coaches.
He probably suits such a role making sure communication lines don't break down and freeing up the senior coach from this work.. however it was clear that the Port Adelaide boy was still in him when he took a thinly vielled swipe at them in the media, something mark williams was an expert. Sure we all love to hear how bad Port are doing it and how unatrractive they are at the moment, but....

I apoligise beforehand for the next comment but as I am so against squibs and tanking and Bailey is rumoured to be into both ( remember the bruise free footy scandal against carlton) , I wonder if we are having a bad year he'll be into the playing kids thing and benching experience as it may improve next years draft prospects?

I can't bare the the thought of something like that in our club.

I must admit I rather have Eade but Bailey is a very good get.

I would like to bring in one or two more assistants outside the club. As it stands now, both Bickley and Campo will remain in the coaches' box which might be a bit too much influence from the previous regime.

Sando and Bailey are a good combo. I just would like to see us add another gun assistant coach and a recently retired player (Milburn) to the coaching box. Assistant preferably to come from a winning club.

At the end of the day though, he's not our head coach. The team ethos, style and direction will be all about what Sando wants.

The good thing about this appt is it seems to complement the good attributes Bailey has, without him setting the overall direction of the team.

I'm liking it.

I think he was a terrible Head Coach but was a decent Assistant Coach. He is not coming here to be the driver of the coaching group but to be part of the team. This probably suits his style, and looking back at his Port Adelaide days he always seemed to be in the background moreso than Clarko and even Walsh.

See how he goes. End of the day he is only an assistant, and none of us know what they actually do either. All we see is the sum of all parts. And the Head Coach at the top.

I do like the ethos of us building a coaching team, which seems to be the way the AFL is heading. Line coaches and now assistants to these line coaches to develop different areas of the team.

Agree on Rocket, but my gut feel is also that I like this bloke.

Pies fan (still grumpy) emailed me and said "I thought he was unemployable now" and "Is he paying you to be an assistant there". :D

I was of the David Schwarz view that he should have been given a little more time at Melbourne. We'll never really know now if he'd make a decent senior coach.

I'm really pleased with this appointment. I like the way he spoke on 5AA and in particular the bits he suggested relating to the clear plan Trigg put forward and that he wanted to go to a club that was willing to invest in development.
I really Like that!

In terms of the restructure, I also like what he had to say. I like that he is going ot be assisting with the midfield and that he will be helping to ensure that Sando's wishes are being correctly implemented by the Assistant coaches. Basically it is additional support and experience for the assistants. Sounds like a smart plan.

There is one other move I'd like to see, and this may come across as crazy to some. BUT, I was watching the Slowdown the other day and noticed that Darren Jarman (apart from being the size of a block of flats) still has the best kicking skills in the game. He's a freak!
I'd really like to see all our players and then our new recruits each year go through a kicking skills program.
Imagine all our new recruits having 3 sessions a week with Jarman on kicking basics. Couldn't hurt surely!

Only if he becomes a tackling bag.

I'm not so sure about this appointment. About the only thing he proved as coach of the Demons was that he knew how to tank, something any of us could have done at a much cheaper price.

I can see that , but i also see the thought process and character this bloke has been involved with for many years.

In a weird way of putting my opinion in laymans terms " you dont hire a shiek to implement catholic policy "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a faint memory that this has already been tried before. Perhaps it was under Ayres.

Wikipedia agrees with you, I remember him being at the club too but not what he was doing, i vaguely recall as a skills coach but - correct me if i'm wrong - he couldn't teach what he could do, it was too natural for him?? i hope i'm wrong and he comes on board to upskill us.

OMG you guys. Let's just give Sando and the Club a break. Let's see what ACTUALLY happens before you start criticising the damned move.

Bailey has a history and a culture something I wish would stay the phuq away from us because it go noone else anywhere..

The positivity of Sandersons appointment has now diminshed in my eyes with this decision or should i say exceptance of mediocrity.
