Bailey's list is worse.
He has inherited a list that's probably in a similar position to where Carlton's was when they won their first spoon. The recruiting and player management at Melbourne for the most recent part has been atrocious and they need a megaman clean out. Whilst Carlton's list is poor they have the basics required. Fevola, Judd, Waite, Stevens, Scotland, Murphy. Whilst Scotland isn't a gun he's serviceable and the others are good enough to suggest Carlton will sneak a few games this year.
Melbourne on the other hand should look at their list and say Mclean is our new captain, Morton (yes first year rookie Morton) is our vice captain and assign a leadership group of 3 or 4 (Carroll, Davey, Macdonald.. ummm maybe make it 3) and anyone who isn't in that leadership group is on the chopping block.
From there they need to cull/trade probably 10 to 15 deadweights at that club at the end of this season. First up for me would be one C Sylvia. **** Robertson off (I really like the guy but if he wants to play selfish football and concentrate on his singing career then he can **** off). Cut at least 6 or 7 more players, trade away Bruce while he still has any value and bring along youngsters and recruit a couple of ready mades from other clubs/ SANFL/WAFL/VFL.
I really hope the Dees can turn this around.

Bruce would just about be the difference between an almost but not quite flag team and actually winning a flag. When he's on song he's awesome but at the moment he looks completely lost.
Id Have Nathan Jones as Captain perhaps ahead of Brock, who is not even in the leadership group due to indiscretions
You can't really rate Dean Bailey. Obviously he has to get to know the players before he can do a 10+player clean out which will happen at the end of the year.
I think Ratten so far has really good communication with his players and they respect him alot.

That's probably pretty fair and completely forgot Jones. I just think if Mclean gets his shizen together he would be the far better leader over the journey. Maybe have 2 or 3 captain system for a while with Jones, Mclean and Morton in there but warn Mclean it's last chance saloon. Whoever turns out to be the better leader gets the job a year or two down the track.
