I think Melbourne have made a terrific decision for there future much like Hawthorn did with Alastair Clarkson. Much like Clarko, Bailey appears as thoe his in full control & will let no one slip out of line & because of this players are copping suspensions for what may appear to be minor offences, remember when Clarkson first took over at the hawks & something very similar happenend a couple of players got suspended & there were quite afew early morning sessions & now you could argue hawthorn are one of the hardest working commited units in the AFL. Melbourne may not be great this year or next but i honestly believe Bailey is putting in the foundations of a tough disciplined footy club which i dont think has been the case under daniher or in Hawthorns case Schwab. So congratulations on his appointment & i think on what will prove to be decisive for the Melbourne footy club.
 
Thanks for the support. Still a long way to go, as he hasn't even coached an official match yet. But hopefully Bailey and his new group of assistants can do the job.

Yes thats very true but i just have one of those hunches, i think the actions that have been taken against sylvia, Mclean & Carroll are all very good & hopefully will improve the discipline of the whole group like it did at hawthorn.
 
Bailey is certainly saying and doing many things right so far. The mark of a good coach is how he performs and guides the team in the bad times more so than the good times. No doubt Bailey will get his mixed bag of ups and downs over the next few years.

I like him but then I remember thinking the same things about Daniher.

I will stick my neck out here though and say that our membership wouldn't be this low if Daniher was still in the hot seat.

Bailey might prove to be a better match-day coach though.

I'd agree with you there, but if Bailey CONSISTENTLY wins games the membership count will rise no matter what.
 
I don't think we should be too overly stressed with the coach reeling in the members, if McNamee's comments are anything to go by, he could very well be at the forefront of a membership drive. He's gonna put a lot of emphasis on corporate ties by the look of it

Is it Bailey who instructs the players to look like they have no %^&* idea what they are supposed to do with the ball once they get it? :D
 
You guys are in exactly the same sort of position we were when clarko took over. An old list of players that had continually let the side down when it counted over a number of years.

Hopefully after todays loss bailey will realise the only way forward is to stop playing players like robertson and yze and just play the kids and give them as much gametime as possible. This means you will be in for a couple of poor seasons but there is no other way. You have some very good young midfielders (mclean,jones etc..) but the forward line is a real worry.

Most importantly you need to stick with the club through the hard times. Things will turn around it just takes a while.

I get your point but don't be stupid, remember Dixon and Vandenberg played until last year. The forward line will come good, we just have no backline (which is also your greatest worry).

I was referring more to players like hay,holland,rawlings and barker. These players were either traded or players like franklin and roughead were played before them.


I think your forward line is in massive trouble. Neitz and robertson are old and on their way out and i don't really see any other key position forwards in there.

Our backline is maybe our weakest part but i still think it is ok.
 
Sad that only 3 years ago Robertson was almost the most dangerous forward in the competition in 05.

We can't massacre our forward line yet. We are trying players one at a time. Weetra first. Maric should be there soon or maybe Garland with Frawley brought in down back.

Miller was our big hope but he's dead as a forward and barely hanging in as a defender.

Newton has filled his role as our next big hope but he had a very bad game today. We have to accept that his skills and speed are average but he seems to know how to get the ball inside 50 and can take a grab so if he continues to do that we'll continue to play him.

Bate is our most talented forward prospect but he just lacks the height to be more than a half-forward flanker unfortunately. He would have been handy today when the game was still alive as we had no centre half forward whatsoever.
 
I'm not too sure of his idea of having the 2 ruckmen constantly on the ground. At times they'd both end up in a ruck contest and whilst PJ had a great game around the ground, he was well and truly spent by the final quarter. As for Whitey, it's not 2004 anymore, he can't ruck for 90% of the game.
 
I get the feeling that Bailey has really gone back to square one as far as focusing on skills (which are shit anyway) rather than focusing too much on a game plan right now.
