Originally in the West Australian, today:
PEEL full forward Dean Buszan has made a big impact on the first day of the AFL draft camp in Canberra, shattering the bench press record.
The powerful young man from Mandurah, bench-pressed 135kg yesterday, a feat which would have impressed representatives from each of the 16 AFL clubs.
Australia's elite young footballers are hand-picked for the camp which involves a
number of physical and psychological tests.
Buszan joined Thunder teammate Daniel Haines and fellow West Australians Michael Bradshaw (Swan Districts), Steven Dewar, Mitch Cornell and Mark Williams (South Fremantle), Quinton Lynch (West Perth), Daniel Kerr (East Fremantle) and Andrew McDougall and Dion Woods (Perth) yesterday in Group A.
East Fremantle's Dom Cassisi and Richard
Hadley, Perth's Mark Coughlan, East Perth's
Luke Webster and Subiaco's Aidan Parker are
in Group B, starting tomorrow.
Buszan burst on to the Westar scene with 32
goals from the club's first eight games last
season before being sidelined with an ankle
injury. He played those fixtures and the State match against South Australia on May 12 with a broken bone in the ankle which had not set from an operation in 1999.
Anyone know anymore about these boys...
