Dean Kent is officially a Saint after a trade for the former Melbourne speedster was finalised today.

Kent joins the Saints in exchange for pick 65 in the 2018 AFL Draft.

List Manager James Gallagher said Kent would add speed and power to the Saints’ midfield and forward line.

“Dean’s biggest strengths are his speed, power and penetrating kick.

"These are attributes we’ve identified as pretty important for our group going forward and we’re excited to secure his services.

“He’s proven to be a dangerous forward during his career to this point, and we also think that he can play a role for us higher up the ground and through the midfield to add a different element to our current group.”

The West Australian native has played 63 AFL games since being drafted to the Demons with pick 48 in 2012.

Dean Kent will miss the rest of the 2019 season, following an injury to his quad in an incident at training today.
The 25-year-old left the track assisted by medical staff after going to ground following a kick.
“Scans show Dean has acquired a tear to the top of his left quadriceps muscle,” GM Football Simon Lethlean said.

“Unfortunately with injuries of this nature, you’re looking at a 10-12 week recovery period, so this will end Dean’s season.
“It’s really disappointing for Dean and the club, but we just have to ensure he has the best treatment and we support him and his young family as well as we can.”
Kent will meet with surgeons over the next few days to assess the next steps in his treatment.

After struggling to get into the game at the start of the year he was just starting to show his ability and why the Saints wanted him when he was dissappointly injured and missed the second half of the year .
Hopefully he will be right for preseason and will be right to go next year . A few of us thought he was carrying a bit of extra weight at the start of this year .

It was a solid first year in the red, white and black for Dean Kent before a quad tear cut his season short.
Prior to his injury, the 25-year-old led the Saints for goal assists (13) and had slotted 12 of his own from 13 outings.
Powerful at ground level and boasting a sturdy set of wheels to complement it, Kent will have his eyes set on piecing together a full season in his new colours.

"Kent’s speed at half-forward was one of the highlights, with the powerful runner putting his hand up for a return to AFL level after missing Round 2 with illness. The former Melbourne forward applied plenty of pressure and could have landed a couple of additional majors, except for some unselfish play."

"Illness and knee soreness may have prevented Dean Kent from playing every game this season, but Round 10 shapes as an opening for the small forward to slip back into the line-up.

The former Melbourne hard-nut has come up clutch several times throughout St Kilda's 2020 campaign, slotting critical steadiers and establishing handy buffers in every match he's played in post-restart.

From his seven goals for the year, four have come in the final quarter when the Saints' success hangs in the balance.

And with St Kilda’s past three matches against Gold Coast decided by less than a goal – with Kent even threading the match-winner in last year’s season opener – his inclusion would be a handy addition to the offensive end."
