Retired Dean Kent

Dean Kent was instrumental in getting James "Chips" Frawley across to the club after announcing his retirement at Hawthorn. The pair shared time together at Melbourne early in their careers.
Along with Roughead, they had a few beers in Noosa when Kent was talking on the phone with Frawley. Ratten reached across and asked to have a word to him and asked what he was doing next year, that was the first conversation and then it progressed from there.
Although he may be injured Kent is still contributing for the club

"He was awesome. Keg was probably our most influential AFL-listed player on the day.

"His power and toughness around the ball, looking back and even live he was just bursting through every contest and hitting bodies hard.

"He’s a real thick and solid unit, so he can come in hard and can kick it 60 metres on top of that. We got some real deep entries off the back of that and he got a goal in the end as well.

"His attitude has been really good the last couple of weeks – which it always has been – and he had a couple of midfield minutes as well, so just mixing up where he plays and not letting his opponent know what he’s doing all the time. He can play deep, he can go high or be an inside mid, so we’ll keep working with that."

Dean Kent will be in the hunt for a Round 2 return following his standout display against North Melbourne in last weekend’s VFL practice match.

Kent finished his afternoon at Arden Street with two goals, but most interestingly was deployed throughout the match as an explosive inside midfielder.

If his past two matches for Sandringham have been any indicator, Dean Kent is the ideal candidate to pack an impact in the offensive end.

The small forward split his time between the forward line and midfield, standing tall in the final term as coach Jake Batchelor challenged his young side to ramp up their contest against the Tigers.

That will be the challenge - finding that sweet spot where he can use his explosive power and we can also have him ahead of the ball.

Kent helped drive his side's ball movement in his new role, bringing plenty of forward pressure along the way.

The No. 25 was one of his side's most dynamic performers for Sandringham last fortnight, again switching between offence and the midfield alongside Luke Dunstan.

Will be interesting to see if he gets a go in the midfield when he gets back into the seniors . It might be worth throwing him into there for a quick 10 minutes every now and again as he is showing he is up to it , plus it gives us another mid option .

5th July 2021 Dean Kent put on a classy display in his second game back from a lengthy battle with concussion. Showcasing speed and grit, Kent collected 18 disposals and added much-needed grunt to the midfield with six tackles and three clearances.

Concussion had kept Dean Kent out of action for nearly a month, but in just his second game back in the VFL, the 27-year-old is certainly making up for lost time.

The former Demon collected 18 disposals in a solid outing against the Magpies, also grabbing six marks and six tackles for the Zebras.

It came off the back of a 26-disposal, one-goal performance against the Tigers the week before in what was the forward’s first game back since May.

It's been a tough slog for the small forward this season, but after two strong games for Sandringham, the third-year Saint is doing all the right things to press towards a senior return in 2021.

ST KILDA has made a late change for its clash against Brisbane, with Dean Kent coming into the side to replace Mason Wood, who suffered hamstring soreness in the warm-up.
Kent gathered 10 touches 6 marks and 4 tackles in his first AFL game in over a year whilst being part of a StKilda unit that had its best win of the year.

Can’t make up my mind about Dean. He turned the ball over a lot against Port in Round 18. Has good skills but hasn’t yet demonstrated he can match it with the more elite players in the competition. Has done it tough and fought his way back into the side. Really needs to start delivering. I wish him well & hope he continues to improve
