Good to hear Harvey is going to bring in his own crew rather than rely on our current assistants. Some of whom I find less than inspiring.

We need a revamp of the assistants, not all, but some. Let Harvey build the regime he wants. If we are to model ourselves of the champion Essendon teams of the past with a modern twist, then I have no problem with that.:thumbsu:

OH Yeah!! With wallis as our backline coach, Don Pyke as our midfield coach and Germain as out fowards coach we'll be humming. I hope harvey can persuade Paul salmon over to be our ruck coach.

Found some info:

Dean Wallis

Assistant Coach

Dean Wallis returned to Essendon Football Club as an assistant coach in season 2004, having played 127 games with the club between 1987-2001.
Wallis, a dual Essendon Premiership player, previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the St Kilda Football Club at the completion of his playing career. His renowned hardness - is a quality that has endeared him to coach Kevin Sheedy who believes Wallis has what it takes to be a senior coach. Wallis has been in charge of the Essendon defensive set up since joining the coaching panel, however in season 2006 with the addition of Gary Ayres to the club, Wallis will now take charge of the team's forward line.

Now having that information I wonder how Essendon's backline went in 2004 - 2005 and how has the forward line been functioning in 2006 -2007?

I didn't couldn't see the game against the bombers. Was their forward structure functioning any better than ours?

Just throwing this out there....

Since they are about to retire, would Parker, Cooke or McManus be any good in the coaching box?

Maybe we could have one of them as an assistant coach..

Any three of them should now possess some tactical nous and understanding of the modern game plus and I would expect any three of those guys are respected by the entire squad. They might have something to offer the club post playing career.

If were gonna revamp - let's look to see if any of these guys can help.

Cook - tackling

Macca - media relations

Parker - communicating with team mates

I've heard some very good things about Wallis. No doubt he will be a good addition to the management team.

2008 - the year of The Dockers

Cookie possibly part time as a tackling coach or as a mentor for the indigenous boys, but can't see a role for the other two.

If J-Lo's knees are buggered we could employ him as a ruck coach, which IIRC wouldn't be counted in the salary cap. If Longmuir wants to stay on the list I'd look to bring Darcy over for a month during pre-season, as a commentator he'll have little else to do in the off season.

If Ricciutto wants to pursue a coaching career he should be looked at. Most players like to leave their club, and he's not going to go to Port so he has to move interstate. It's much harder to lure big name Victorians, because they have 9 other options in their backyard.

I wonder if Prescott will be looked at again?

I would've thought we could offer a place to any of those 3 I mentioned, but in particular with Macca being a favourite son, I would be sure he could be a component of our club if he so choose to [post playing career. I personally think he has a lot of things to offer the club. He might not always pull off moves on the field the way he or the supporters would want him to, but I reckon he has a vast understanding of the game, a true love of the club and a understanding of camaraderie and playing for you team mates and team colours. Surely that counts for something.

Ricciutto... now thats an interesting name to throw into the mix... not bad at all....;)

Macca doesn't strike me as a thinking footballer like Bell, Voss, Hird etc. I wouldn't be comfortable with him coaching our midfield/forwards/defenders in 2008 or anytime in the near future.

If he wants a marketing role I'd be happy for him to be given one.
