Lions personnel expenses for 2014 were $20 million (excluding super). Even if Lions paid full salary cap, deducting that from the $20 million I don't think the Lions staff are having to spend too many nights eating baked beans on toast.

Unless of course they like baked beans.

I personally know people who have been headhunted for a variety of roles at the club (both football department and other roles) and all would have had to have taken a significant paycut to work for the Lions. And these people are not incredibly well paid in their current roles.

This displays a lack of understanding of what it costs to run a football club. I'm glad you're not on the board.

Was interviewed for a job at the Lions during premiership era. The pay was ridiculously small and to me they expected the excitement of working in sports/footy to make up for it. I didn't get the job but wouldn't, couldn't have taken it anyway.

^ that is absolutely the case in almost all sports fields. Unless you are the 'best in the business' at what you do you are paid peanuts on the basis that you are working their because you're at least one of passionate, hoping to get your big break, or getting invaluable experience in a very high profile role.

I know people who've worked at AFL, Cricket and motor racing. Motor racing is the worst.

That seven top-30 draft choices have quit Brisbane over the past three seasons remains an indictment on the club, which will overhaul its football and player welfare divisions come season's end.

That overhaul comes in the form of husband and wife duo Craig and Melissa Lambert, who will quit Greater Western Sydney, where they have worked since that club was formed, overseeing the off-field concerns of the fledgling list.
