I would like to respond to your email you sent me today.

You clearly state that

"We fumbled all night"

and

"Port, to their credit, were a lot cleaner with their disposal"

Could this have anything to do with the fact that they arrived in Darwin early so they could expose themselves to the conditions that are expected every night of the dry season??? greasy.. slippery.... It was clear

You then state,

"The fact of the matter is that we had a good preparation leading into the game"

Lids, Jackson, Jack and who knows else had media or sporting night commitments the night before we flew out to Darwin.

I ask you how you could possible say that Lids had a "good preparation" and why he was allowed to be a panelist on the footy show late into the night before a 4 hour flight to Darwin leaving early the next morning??

Regards......................

Yes it probably was an error to allow Lids to appear on the footy show the night prior to flying to Darwin as he should have been at home and in bed by 8.30. It obviousy affected his game and the other 21 (who must all have sat up late watching him) who all played on Saturday night.

so you are happy that atleast 3 key players had interrupted preparations.

That Port had a clear advantage over us???

Anyone who says that our limited preparation didn't have an effect on our performance have rocks in their heads...

To say we should have won anyway is also a cop out .....

Why cant we criticise this football department when they "clearly" let us down by not preparing the side adequately.

nut, that is your opinion, not fact.

Using excuses like this is just a cop out for still being wrapped up in the prior week's result, and thus playing non competitive footy.

Probably way of the mark but Ive got the feeling it was a bit of" lets head off to Darwin and she'll be right mate' attitude.

I got worried early on when I noticed alot of port players were wearing the glove and thought they know something we don't.

The poor preparation could not have helped. It was definitely a factor, but one of many. The main factor being that we were sloppy, off the pace and not hard enough at the ball.

At least any misguided illusions of grandeur for this year have gone out the window and we can go back to focusing on 2012 onwards :thumbsu:

????? what is not fact???

Ok when we finally make the finals and we are unlucky to have a final in Perth on a Saturday night you would like to see one of our best players up all night on the footy show less than 48 hours before the match????

What is way off the mark????? infact your post "Proves" Port were better prepared than we were because they spent an extra day getting use to the condition and knew that it would be greasy and slippery so some players wore gloves.

The bloody game should have been played when the foxtel game was played an the humidity wasn't at 80%. We werent the only ones dropping sitters but next time afl realize the heat is less of an issue than the humidity on the games attractiveness. In terms of prep with footy show what now.... It's just another excuse one that we can't use.

nut you really need to let go of this, all this is is your opinion but you are throwing it out there like it is fact.

Why did you need to start a new thread anyway? why but bring up the other one where you clogged it up with this crap for 5-6 pages.

Whats not fact????? every dry season in Darwin the conditions are the same... as the sun goes down the temperature falls and the humidity increases until it forms moisture... would you like a lesson in Meteorology??

What crap did I clog it up with???? did you watch the game??? did you see us fumble??? did you notice how flat the players looked???? in my opinion the thread was clogged up with idiots.... considering we lost by 15 points these factors cost us the game.... if you cant see that then fine .. Hopefully the club doesn't make the same stupid mistake when we head to Cairns.... I'd hate to loose to an under 20's side.

I started a new thread to criticise DH for saying that we had a good preparation when clearly we did not. I am venting my frustrations because i could see we weren't taking the game seriously enough and everything I said before the match had an effect on our performance.

I would be pretty peeved if I was Lids and copped criticism for his below standard performance after his media commitments which were approved by the club.

Not sure exactly what the problem is, its not like Deledio Jackson and Riewoldt missed vital training sessions or team meeting to do the shows. It also shows a fair bit of disrespect to Port and their efforts to suggest that we would have won had our players not done the shows.

Also had we played down here and the players not done TV shows what would you have blamed for our loss?

We should have a word to channel 9 before our next Friday night game and see if they can wrap up the footy show earlier, just in case any of our players are watching and in fact wait no, I've got it, we should shut off the power to all player's houses on a Friday night at 10:00pm to make sure they are well rested for a Saturday game

We should inform the AFL we won't be participating in either the Brownlow night or the parade should we make a GF in case it distracts our preparation :thumbsu:

Or perhaps we should turn up to play every bloody team as though it is a game that could be our last, regardless of where, when and who the bloody hell we are playing against and stop looking for stupid excuses.

We weren't as desperate as Port full stop and the only thing that is protecting us from that insipid performance is the media's fascination that we 'sold' four points. We would have lost that game against anyone the way we played.... No more bloody excuse, heads down, bums up and we'd better come out breathing fire for 4 qtrs against Sydney.

End rant

If you seriously think we are not better than Port than god help us...

The disrespect was our decision to waltz up to darwin 30 hours before the game and expect to win. Allowing some players to stay out late before the flight.

As Al Pacino says in his speech ... it all about inches... doing everything possible to win. Port did, we didn't.

We didn't allow our players enough exposure to the conditions that were always going to be there.....

This is not about me being right ... it's highlighting that DH still thinks we had a "good preparation" when CLEARLY we didn't. My concern when I got the email was that DH cant see that....

Will we learn and head upto Darwin a day earlier next year???? or will we continue with what DH thinks was " good preparation".

If people seriously think I am talking crap then you can all GFed... I want us to win and by highlighting it I hopefully prevent us from making the same stupid mistake next year when we will be trying for a top 4 spot.

It was a fresh night (for Darwin anyway) and there was dew, probably around 18-21 degrees.
No matter what conditions you play up here the ball always gets wet, either from the weather or the sweat. I have no doubt we thought we knew what to expect but were well off the mark. Port had an idea but came up early anyway to refresh their memories and trained at the appropriate time. Us training at 315pm Friday was not going to benefit us in any way possible. Good knows what we were thinking.

The flight arrived in darwin at 230pm... so we must have gone straight from the airport to the ground.

So you accuse our players of not paying proper respect to Port and then pretty much do the same by suggesting that we're a much better side than them. Fact is Nut, we aren't, we're still a developing side that is learning about things like consistency.

Also I'm not sure how arriving over 24 hours before the game, having a training run at the ground and spending a week training in a heat chamber at Punt Rd so that the players could get used to the effects heat and humidity would have on their bodies is anything but ensuring the players had the best possible preparation.

The fact of the matter is we lost because we didn't play the way we played the week before against Essendon and that is going to happen when you have a side that is as young and inexperienced as ours is. Lets not forget that we're not even half way through the plan that Dimma put in place when he arrived, we're still going to have ups and downs over the next 12 games and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see us lose a few more games that the majority will expect us to win. On the flip side there will be a win or 2 that no-one expects us to win.

Amazed at the shit nut is copping here. I'm not saying it's the sole reason we lost but how the hell can people keep saying that it's not fact? Or it's nuts opinion that these blokes were fulfilling commitments whilst the Port team were already in Darwin?

How can you deny the fact that he also went to pains to point out that we were in for a big shock as it's a different game in Darwin Before the event?

A bloke at work has played a lot of footy for St.Marys and said the same thing "your blokes are at a massive disadvantage not playing there before and should have been there days earlier.live and learn I say but it's beyond me how nut is accused of making things up?

WHERE DID I ACCUSE THE PLAYERS?????? I am accusing our football department!!!

So port having an extra training session at the time the game was scheduled was no advantage??? seriously... get the DH goggles off. Port were better because they showed respect to the conditions. Which makes them a smarter and better club ... but I believe we have better talent ... but talent will only get you so far with out being smarter than the oppostion. The Heat chamber.... does that simulate the conditions in Darwin???? the hard surface with slippery conditons... it's indoors ffs. It's not hot in Darwin at 8pm in the middle of the dry seasons... I spent 10 years there... I know what it's like.

Yes we will have ups and downs and I'm totally prepared for that. I just dont want us to make the same mistake when we fly to the Cairns and Darwin next year.

Lets say we did go up early as Nut wanted and didn't have players on the various footy shows/public appearances and still loss, what would people be blaming then?

Blaming everything but the performance of the players on the night is a cheap excuse and lets the players off lightly.

The flight arrived in darwin at 230pm... so we must have gone straight from the airport to the ground.

I rang AFLNT to find out when and thats the time they gave me, i wasn't happy because i had a bloody meeting!

When you put it like that then its different. I have no doubt that the coaches and the footy dept would be sitting at Punt Rd this week and having a good look at what they could do differently and will make changes accordingly for next time.

RD, it's nut's opinion that those commitments affected their preparation.

There is nothing wrong with his opinion, except that it's being spouted from the top of every mountain, to the point of being shoved down people's throats if they don't want to agree.

If they were sitting at home that night playing playstation, then we lost and people found out, someone would have an issue with that.

I'm not saying it isn't an issue. But if we were to ask Lids and Jacko if they think it had an affect, then that's probably the only opinion I'd take seriously.

"your blokes are at a massive disadvantage not playing there before and should have been there days earlier.live and learn I say

Live and learn is what the thread is about..... The fact that Dimmer would publicly say that we had a good preparation in an email to members when clearly we did not is what worries me.

If people cant see that Port had an advantage than we have learnt nothing from the loss.
