Mik: If that was true then why does the official AFL record state Collingwood as having 14 (count em) AFL premierships and let me see..... how many do Port Chokelaide have? oh yes......... ZILCH, SQUAT, NADA!

Collingwood has only one (1) flag which says "AFL" on it. Collingwood has 13 other flags which say "VFL", and Port Adelaide has 35 flags which say "SANFL".

SANFL had regular 70,000+ crowds at Grand Finals, compared to your claimed 120,000 for VFL Grand Finals. Considering Victoria has 3 to four times the population of Adelaide, that would make the per capita following of SANFL in Adelaide much higher than the per capita VFL following in Melbourne. Maybe twice the per capita following for SANFL.

Before you go knocking the VFL and acting like this competition only started 14 years ago, consider this:
The league that had the highest attendances in the world per capita? Thats right, a suburban competition that produced crowds of 125 thousand to a grand final and 80-100 thousand to home and away games regularly. Per capita, not soccer, not gridiron, nor baseball could match us, let alone get near us, you are priveledged to be in a competition that owes its existence to that "suburban league" you benefit by the blood and sweat of the giants that have come before you so show a little respect, after all, it was'nt your state that accomplished this magnificent competition.
Sweep your streets.

Touchy...yes what you say is all and well but the VFL could never cut in against the SANFL and WAFL in terms of skill and the ability to produce champion elite players. It wasn't until the 70's that the VFL was demonstrably better (and when it really began to take off) than the interstate leagues and that was solely due to the superior financial might of the VFL which meant it was buying (some would say poaching) the elite and promising players from the interstate leagues. When you put this into perspective that means that, for example (and I think Quatzequat this is where you are coming from), Colligwood's 4 GFs in a row is an overstated acheivement - especially compared with Port's 6 in a row.

Facts are facts and it is inescapable that the interstate teams (by supplying the quality players) turned the VFL into a so called internationally recognised sport and now by actually supplying quality teams, turning the AFL into a truly great league.

maybe if you showed a scant amount of respect for interstate comps then the favour would be returned, all i hear from you is bias jargon. THe WAFL and SAFL have existed as long (if not longer) than your beloved VFL -

so when you get a grip and a bit of respect for something else than your own ego maybe interstate people will show a bit more respect

Racehorse: Actually there's no chance, the VFL was named in the guiness book of world records for highest attendances per capita

Well with all due respect there's not much to do down there, except go to the footy. Other states have beautifull beaches that need attending, sunshine that needs harvesting on our skin, going fishing where fish are plentyful and not disformed and beautiful women to look at.

Actually I heard that Melbourne was voted the worlds most liveable city. That explains "on the move" signage on your number plates. YEAH on the move to other states for a better life style.

I think you might find that the 'per capita' record would include the entire population of Australia.

Record attendances:
Football Park
66,897 - Sturt v Port GF 1976
Per capita 45.51 attendees per 1000 population in SA

MCG
121,696 - Carlton v Collingwood GF 1970
Per capita 26.2 attendees per 1000 population in Vic

Re: Dear Non Victorians

The bottom line is just that. The VFL lived way beyond the bottom line and turned into a financial basket case, football league, existing waaaay beyond its means and seeking to create a national competition purely as a last chance, desperate grab for cash!!

If it had been done properly, then clubs with real history and tradition like Port Adelaide, Norwood (SA) Claremont, Swan Districts (WA) Collingwood, Essendon (VIC) would be playing each other at the expense of perenial embarrassments such as St Kilda and Western Bulldogs, etc.!

The only people who don't appear to recognise this FACT are stubborn Victorians, either too busy shoving their collective heads in the sand, or up their collective @rses!?/FONT]

Dont worry guys, the trolling halfwit has been suspended, hopefully never to return.
These subjects have been done to death a dozen times or more over the years.
Same old crap by the same type of troll.

Who cares what they have to say, we all knoqw it is a National competition made up of 16 teams who IMHO ALL have a right to be in.

Dont get sucked in by this lazy trolling, especially from a filth troll.

13 SUBURBAN flags
Brisbane have more national ones
To be fair to Collingwood they actually have;

5 flags in an 8 team suburban competition (1902, 1903, 1910, 1917, 1919)
8 flags in a 12 team suburban competition (1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1935, 1956, 1958)
1 flag in an extended suburban competion (1990)
0 flags in a national competiton
