Before you go knocking the VFL and acting like this competition only started 14 years ago, consider this:
The league that had the highest attendances in the world per capita? Thats right, a suburban competition that produced crowds of 125 thousand to a grand final and 80-100 thousand to home and away games regularly. Per capita, not soccer, not gridiron, nor baseball could match us, let alone get near us, you are priveledged to be in a competition that owes its existence to that "suburban league" you benefit by the blood and sweat of the giants that have come before you so show a little respect, after all, it was'nt your state that accomplished this magnificent competition.
Nobody is disrespecting or knocking the VFL..
Nobody is suggesting that we remove the VFL part of the AFL compeptitions history books..
Nobody is saying the past doesnt count..

But we are arguing for a national approach to AFL decision making, rather than a continuation of the VFL everything is about Victorian line of thinking.

It's ok to argue for the AFL to remain a glorified VFL, just don't try to kid yourself about the A in AFL...

Ahhh Homer, that would'nt prove anything, not with search engines like Google at my disposal, however if you want true esoteric knowledge not available outside mystery schools then I might regale you with a theory of serpent/kundalini energy and it's striking correlation with DNA and it's spiral form

as far as im concerned, the afl started 14 years ago, and before then, it was just the crappy vfl...IMO
I strongly disagree. IMO the VFL evolved into the AFL meaning VFL premierships still count but the governing body should be approaching things from a national POV and not clinging to the old VFL Melbourne-centric past. Otherwise, the VFL > AFL name change is just a name change only without a change in approach.

That would be witty if there were'nt so many grammatical errors

Speaking of errors, I'd suggest you read your PM's.

Mik: If that was true then why does the official AFL record state Collingwood as having 14 (count em) AFL premierships and let me see..... how many do Port Chokelaide have? oh yes......... ZILCH, SQUAT, NADA!
13 SUBURBAN flags
Brisbane have more national ones

Interstate clubs saved the VFL from going broke. How did they get broke in the first place, for stealing players from interstate with huge amounts of money that they ultimatly couldn't afford. Look at all the great names those crowds used to flock to see, Malcolm Blight, Polly Farmer, Ian Stewart, guess what none of em are Victorians. Without the support of the "Interstate" Clubs all your clubs would be struggling in the VFA or extinct. Dont talk about us owing you pricks something, how about giving us, your saviours a break for once.

Dont whine if your competition was'nt good enough to hold onto it's own players

No argument over the situation the VFL faced in the 1980's.

Even my own club had just 8000 members back then.

But, at the same time, as I mentioned in littleduck's topic, the interstate clubs and leagues needed the VFL teams to help them out, as the National Football League concept would have collapsed without them...in the end it didn't matter as the VFL commission decided to try it out anyway, utilising the solid base it had in Melbourne.

West Coast and the Crows have more national flags than them, lets face it mate, even Essendon and Carlton have atleast won 2 flags each since 1987, Hawthorn have won 3 the roos 2 also. Powerhouse mate, your club is a midrange team since the inception of interstate teams. Since 1987, non Victorian teams have won 7 of 16 premierships, and 2 have been beaten Grand Finalist. Get used to the fact that Victorians aren't meant to have the premiership cup in their state.

I reckon there's a chance that per capita the WAFL and SANFL had higher average attendances.

Fred: Lets face it, I'm bored brainless after one day, there's nothing here but mindless rants and ridiculous rumours, what exactly will I be missing? Listening to sad interstaters that know they are AFL trimmings and fodder for real powerhouse clubs?

Racehorse: Actually there's no chance, the VFL was named in the guiness book of world records for highest attendances per capita

Onya bike you pathetic excuse for a... Oh I don't want him to hang around.

Hall of Shame nomination. For talking down his Pinnochio-sized nose to us all about a subject he clearly knows little about.

Quatzequat, you really are a tosser. You did not create the AFL. The victorian clubs, and clubs from other states created a NEW league... The VFL did not turn into the AFL...
Now the fagpies aren't in the finals, don't you have anything better to do? Obviously not.
Your population is also bigger, what do you expect... when all that was going on in the vfl, the sanfl still existed... We have been playing the game just as long as you have.
I agree with mik, in that no cups should be counted, but if Quatzequat wants to count the fagpies cups in the vfl (a completely diff league, as is the sanfl), everyone should be able to.

Also, we are not interstaters when it come to football. We are non-victorians (and happier that way).
Just because there are more teams in victoria, doesnt mean all the other teams should be called interstate teams. You are interstate to me, its all relative. And also, the competition would not have turned into what it is today without the other clubs joining, and if you don't believe that, go and tell your nurse to lower the dosage of whatever you are on.

LionVoss: As previously stated you are a blip in time, only there to beat rugby into submission, and only successful for the moment through concessions, you are the longterm cellar dwellars of the league when the honeymoon is over, we've watched em all come and go, you are no different

Yes and thanks to the Pies for been one of the clubs in agreeing to the very same concessions you speak off. Actually we are different, we beat Collingwood in two GF's. Do you recall any other team doing that?
