The 2025 edition of this thread brought a lot of fun for all of us. This year we're riding:
  • GWS (2nd round)
  • St Kilda (2nd round)
  • Melbourne (4th round)
Let's ride them hard!

Looking forward to this kicking off in opening round when we play GWS and St Kilda play the Pies. Melbourne not scheduled til R1.

St. Kilda and Melbourne are always capable of finishing low on the ladder and the Saints with so many recruits could see cohesion issues until mid/late into the season and if GWS unfortunate injury plague carries on we could be in the running for some decent seconds.

If it pans out like this we could be on our way to another mid to late first to go towards a certain trade target(s).

Expecting GWS and Saints to finish mid table and dees bottom 6. It was astute trading but a year too late all those seconds would have been gold when they could be packaged up for bids. Have to see where the bid players land those picks could get us a late first rounder which all helps with butters chase.

One of those seconds will be used on young Hodge.

Is it too much to ask for Cats, Essendon and the Tigers to finish in 18th spot?
You really don't want that. Would you like any of those sides to get pick 1 in the draft?

Thought I'd bump this. Let's not talk about last week's GWS game, but good to see them go down against the dogs. Hoping for back to back Saints losses, even if it means our 4th rounder drops!

Currently (I think) we have (if I'm doing it right):
  • 14 - Our first
  • 26 - St Kilda second
  • 30 - GWS second
  • 32 - Our second
  • 58 - Mel fourth

Death riding for 2nd rounders just doesn't get me as excited unfortunately 🤪
Same.

Salivating over pick 3 or 4 from Carlton for half of last year was terrific fun (though I always suspected they weren't that bad...)

Deathriding Carlton was so much fun that I’m still doing it. Even though there is nothing at stake for us…

I know there's less interest this year, but I thought this looks too good not to mention:

  • 13 - Our first
  • 21 - St Kilda second
  • 23 - GWS second
  • 31 - Our second
  • 66 - Mel fourth
That missed trade w/ Essendon is looking better and better. I just wish we had some of their picks in our hands.

Our first will start at 18 not 13. Then get pushed way back by academy, father son, free agency compensation, tassie picks etc.. Probably going to be 27 or something.

I would love for Essendon to get pick 1. Pick 1 is hardly ever the best player in the draft when you apply hindsight and the last time they had it they used it on crab McGrath. They are welcome to pick 1.

Tassie won't have much of an imapct on this year's draft. Any Tassie kids who are draft eligible this year can opt to sign for Tassie instead but have to play VFL for a year - but this wouldn't impact the draft order would just take them out of the pool.

You're right i mixed up. Is it listed anywhere exactly what Tasmania will get?

You'd think that some bottom age players this year might be eligible to be pre-listed like GC did with Jaegar.

The problem is most clubs are under pressure from the media. The media generally prick the no.1 and use gallons and gallons of printers ink to create the expectation.

If clubs are stupid enough to do this then I say we let Essendon have at it.
