Pretty sure hosting the prelim pushes you Up.

I just spent a few minutes trying to google this question but predictably for the AFL it is very vague. All the rulebook states is:

'Clubs shall select Players at the National Draft Selection Meeting in reverse order to the order in which Clubs finished on the Final Premiership Ladder in the previous Football Year.'

There is no further detail provided as to how that is determined for tiebreaking losers of finals.

Having finished second on the H&A ladder, Draft Position 5 (based on the Points formula) puts us in a really good place for the coming Trade/ Draft periods.

Massive tick for our trading strategies in recent years.

Yeah agree totally. Whilst not right at the pointy end, overall we're well positioned with a lot of picks in the first three rounds. Looking at West Coast's position, it will be interesting to see if / how they make the Kelly deal happen.

Elliot Yeo, all is forgiven.

FYI here's the official AFL rule:

"Final Premiership Ladder: the ranking of Clubs as determined by the Commission at the conclusion of the Final Series taking into account any sanctions imposed by the Commission under Rule 29."

So... no help there.

Going back to 2005, Adelaide finished 1st, lost to St Kilda (4th), and then both lost in the prelim. Adelaide got pick 16 and St Kilda got pick 17, once priority picks were accounted for. If that holds true, Geelong will get pick 15 and Collingwood (us) will get pick 16.

This is actually the opposite of what I expected.

From the regulations:

"Where two Clubs are eliminated in the same round of the Finals Series, subject to any sanctions imposed by the Commission under AFL Rule 17, to determine the position of those Clubs on the Final Premiership Ladder the Club that was ranked higher on the Premiership Ladder at the conclusion of the Home and Away Series, shall be placed higher as between them."

So... shrug.

If/when Gold Coast get a priority pick and potentially a 2nd round pick (I gather people think he’s worth a pick somewhere between 15 and 30) for Jack Martin they’ll have another very strong draft hand.

Hopefully for their sake they make each pick a winner.

Supposedly they are a good chance of recruiting Brandon Ellis as a free agent too.

Anyone able to post a final washup of our trade week of 2018 now?

Feels like we did a masterful job of offloading Beams and getting Neale for a song.

Copied from dlanod's 2018 trade period autopsy:

Net result:

IN: Neale, Adams, McCarthy, 2018 picks 18, 30, 35, 55, 56, 78; 2019 picks 15 (Coll 1st round), 19 (GC Second round), 42 (FRE third round pick). Add in Lyons as a delisted FA to the 2018 haul too.

OUT: Beams, Mayes, 2018 picks 5, 24, 43, 62, 80, 2019 pick 14.

The picks don't line up identically to 2018 draftees due to bidding shuffling and our trade to get Answerth.

With 90% of the crowd, all of the "unbiased" Fox commentators on side, it was a great win.

Shows you how close to the mark we are.
Ch7 commentators called the match and yes they were biased
I didn’t pay much attention to the Fox commentators pre or half time, but appeared okay at the end
