Why aren’t Melbourne playing Frost and Oscar as KPP to allow Lever to be the third tall?

They want to play Tom McDonald forward anyway.

"Will be a superstar". The money hes on he should already be one.

So the Dees could reasonably expect that when Jake "does" become a superstar he will be demanding $2 mill a year.....good luck with that Dees.
If you can't handle the scrutiny don't accept the cheque Snake

Exactly. When you're paid big bucks you have to expect to cop criticism when you don't live up to the hype.

This wasn't even a Tom Boyd scenario, where Lever was expected to build into being a star. He was in the AA squad last year, so he was already at that level. That's his expected baseline now and he's not coming close to delivering on it.

They will win more than Melbourne quite comfortably.

Their game plan is still shit but Port will make finals on the back of the amount of top end talent they've bought in.

But in a few years they're going to fall off a cliff because they have no quality youngsters coming through.

If Lever doesn’t deal with scrutiny all that well, he better learn fast. He clearly didn’t handle it well for the last part of the 2017 season where he appeared to be rattled. It’s only going to get harder for him because after 2 games people are already questioning whether he was worth the money.

Melbourne supporters are already turning on him, his teammates are having to defend him and it wouldn’t surprise me if his opponents are taking full advantage of it by getting inside his head and putting him off his game.

Taking that kind of money has left him open to this level of scrutiny and everyone has high expectations of him, which he is struggling with. He won’t know what real pressure is until he plays the Crows at AO in front of 50k supporters baying for his blood.

He won't know what real pressure is until he feels Fog bearing down on him.
I hope hes still in the side by then cos you know Tex will get Fog to do his dirty work so he doesnt come under fire from the media as a 'bully' cant say an 18 year old kid who never met him is 'seeking revenge'

Never really been a hard man either. And he isn’t exactly a player who likes it tough as he prefers to float as a 3rd

I wouldn’t call him soft but he’s not “hard” either
I agree that he’s not an enforcer type, but I never saw him hesitate when dropping back into the hole or take a backward step when anyone from the other team tried to get stuck into him to put him off his game.

The best way to put him off his game is to just beat him in a contest. He doesn’t like being beaten.

I think Lewis is correct in that it's too probably early to judge how Lever will fit in at Melbourne, but the high draft picks traded and Lever's high salary means he can't reasonably expect to avoid coming under the microscope if he delivers a substandard performance. Just have to look at Tom Boyd after he signed for $1m/year.

With Melbourne facing North this week, Lever could get more exposed if they persist in playing him as a KPD as he'd have to match up on Ben Brown or Waite at some point in the game.

Second half of the year may well be different when TMacDonald returns from injury
