The Spring Champion Stakes is feeling rather unloved right now.

If the name of this series isn’t the Golden Triangle I’ll be disappointed

Lol the Golden Eagle. How many cones were sunk around the boardroom coming up with that banger.

We all throw some stupid opinions around here, but you just know this board alone could come up with a better concept.

12 mths a long time away, if it was run tomorrow on exposed form TAS would be $1-10

The concept of a 7.5mill race for 4yo only competing directly with the best race day in Aus is the stupidest thing they could possibly come up with. Direct finger at all 4yo who would have run in the Kennedy Mile as well, to split the quality.

If you had a good quality 4yo sprinter, good enough to win the Everest, they could probably steal this a couple of weeks later against an inferior field and pick up 10mill+ in 2 weeks without winning a group race. Crazy

The race is only worth $7.5 Million if you’re going for the third point in the triangle.

The more good racing the better, have no issues with what NSW are doing. Creates intrigue country wide and turnover massive. Personally, enjoy punting in Sydney.

Of all the days in the known universe why would they put it on Derby Day. Best trainers, jockeys and horses all gonna be in Melb.

Can't wait until the hand the winning cheque to the owner (unavailable in Melb), Waller the trainers trophy (unavailable in Melb), and the jockey trophy to 94 yo Robert Thompson

You'd have to think many Euro 3yos (4yo by Southern Hemisphere standards) that come for the Melbourne Cup will use this as a lead up. Will have the class but probably beaten for pace over a mile. Still collect a decent cheque for running in the money.

Nothing is going to boost turnover like an 8 horse field with 5 of them trained by Waller.

    Meant overs fwiw.

Was incorrectly priced as equal faves before pike, even weirder he basically said he would ride AQ and price didn’t change till he confirmed.

Interesting ride on Laure me in in the first leg of the quad. Sit sprint horse could have easily had the one one yet the Jockey just burnt his horse trying to keep some nag out 3 wide, needless to say he gave up at the end.
Meanwhile the 7th is truly the worst city race that isnt a maiden in history. I hate how they have devalued city racing, nowdays you get Moe quality races with these stupid benchmarks

So Messara owns TAS, and is chairman of racing NSW. TAS widely tipped to dominate the autumn and retire.

Suddenly we have a 7.5 mill race over an amazingly suitable distance of 1500m restricted specifically to 4yos to encourage horses not to retire early

    Mildly convenient

Is Messara still on the racing NSW board?

Dunno, google says he is. Doesn't matter whether he is or not he controls RNSW

Is saying TAS will go to Cox Plate if he races on but who knows
