Yep :thumbsu:

What the board/admin forgot to consider is that some of our players have a brain. And some of them also have other options. It's a deadly combo for a struggling club.

The good news is that we'll keep all the dummies who don't have anywhere else to go.

It also helps that we sign those ones up in May each year* "in case of poaching"

Completely agree. Admin have failed to understand the nature of free agency as well. Our best young players will be entering free agency just as the Tippett penalties really start to bite on field.

This is a whole new world where elite young talent actually get a say in where they get to play. Wasteland talent in a small state market away from your family..... Or big cash, big state, big market, blockbuster games most weeks, close to family and..... The same or greater money.

Not sure if our admin have quite worked out just how much of a challenge it will be to keep young guns in adelaide in the free agency era....

What if many of these people feel the same?
What you've said is more along the lines of they're deliberately putting these issues ahead of all else..
An unhappy environment makes these problems happen.. The mental edge has to be spot on, look at us at the moment on field, we are a shell..
In a perfect world the players live in a bubble and just play football..

Roo said today, you need most things in the club to be be working well, tight, unified for on field to work..
Just then Voss on Open Mike said something similar, the whole club must be aligned, any chink in the armor will not allow you to go places.. From the board right down to the players..

We've got a chink in our armour the size of Kim Kardashian's ass.

Performing badly over the next 4 weeks might be the best thing that could happen for the crows next tilt at a premiership.

Sadly we need a Primus/GWS moment. I don't think Sando is that bad, but he seems to have lost control. What we really need is enough turmoil to dislodge Trigg and rattle all the old oys up in the ivory tower. We could bring in Ross Lyon but with our festering off field problems we still wouldn't get anywhere. Sabotage from above. Not out of design but out of complacency, arrogance, stubborness, incompetence etc. Short term pain for long term gain looks like the only way forward.

I'm as realistic and anti admin as the next person, but is all this talk getting way out of control?

We have lost to 3 sides who will be pushing top 4 and we have had significant injuries to boot.

I know we are no more than a mid range team but let's see how we go against similar or less opposition before we start predicting the world to crumble down. If we lose to saints and GWS I'll jump on board but I don't even want to fathom that right now.

Just watched Talking Footy, thank you Duck for bringing it up. I watched Classified, 360 and On the Couch (and Voss on Open Mike) and it was all about Carlton, only mentions Adelaide got were about Tex and our deplorable stats. It will build and eventually, hopefully with horrific loses to accommodate it, Trigg will resign, and others will follow. And also, if Sando loses the players, if he already hasn't, then he can go as well.

Our seasons already cooked after 3 rounds. The only time we made finals after a 0-3 start was 2001 but look at the talent we had then. We're cooked but this is a great opportunity now for change if we can get smashed just a couple more times.

If you think we have problems now ,wait until Danger walks because of our situation and lack of forseeable success and no positive action to turn it around.
He's probably, through his manager, already in the early stages of fielding offers.

That's why we have 12 months maximum to have a massive turn around.

I must admit this comment from Sanderson had me pretty concerned:

Does anyone think Ken Hinkley would find it difficult to engage with younger players face to face?

I know most players are on board twitter but deep down I bet they'd want a coach who cuts through the social media bullshit and tries to be as direct as possible.

I think you are reading too much into the statement. When everything is going well for a coach its easy to compare to a struggling teams coach and say well he obviously cant do this, this and this as well. That isn't true at all. Sando is far from the first coach to communicate the difference in age groups in how you communicate to them.

I think we miss van Berlo on field more than we think.

No one needs good leadership when the going is good, it's when the going gets tough that the leaders are required.

With all this talk of a division between the players and coaches, I think vB would be able to refocus the side on to the game at hand.

Judging by our start, I'm not sure Danger or Sloane are ready for captaincy yet.

Sando has come across as a 'mate' to the players. We don't need a mate we need a coach who won't take any shit and won't give gold passes. The exodus will continue if something doesn't change which I hope is the reason Danger came out and said what he did.

There seems to be to completely opposing views here. One is that he is too close to the players and cant make the tough decisions. The other is that he has caused a rift with the players because he let Bernie get traded, tried to trade some others and hurt their feelings after the Geelong game.

It cant be both.

Wow that is big.

Disagree, VB's form last year was very ordinary - he should have been dropped. We have always suffered from the opposition scoring multiple goals quickly and easily - this is not someone new, it happened under his watch too.

The club stuffed up before the season started, we had the perfect opportunity to start with a clean slate at AO.

VB should have been thanked for his service as captain but he can now concentrate on his recovery, give captaincy to Sloan or Danger. IMO they would have taken ownership, now they must feel as if the club doesn't have faith in them as VB is still captain for as far as the eye can see.

Likewise we should have said "thanks Trigg for organising the move to AO, that task is now done, thankyou for your years of service but now is the right time to change leasdership.

WOuld have been a huge positive vibe around the club for the start of the season, instead we have the same old same old.

That approach worked well in 2012, but doesnt work well in today's game. In 2011, Craigy lost the players and they needed Sando to win back the players which he did. However in 2014 I really feel he has lost them, yes you we can blame injuries to some extent but we have been blown away so easily in all three games its been embarrassing. The players are just not working hard and running to the right areas and leading. A lack of scoreboard pressure also has robbed us as well with our kicking.

Structurally I think playing Pods deep and JJ up beyond CHF is the way to go.

I agree we had the perfect opportunity to move forward with the captaincy and leadership on and off the field and we choked.

I really can't see how Trigg will get pushed now if Tippet-gate wasn't enough. On-field performance is the coaches domain and most I fear will see it that way. While the media could push him out, I am not sure the SA media would and I don't think the VIC media care that much especially with all the talk on Carlton atm (Richmond are just thankful they're not in the spotlight yet). I think it may take something unprecedented like the players demanding him gone which is highly unlikely, or a petition from the fans gaining MASSIVE traction.

Unfortunately even if Trigg was to go today, I suspect a lot of damage has already been done:
  • Loss of draft picks
  • Players actively shopped around despite wanting to stay e.g. Wright, Mackay
  • Trading of Vince - the joker of the club and would have probably lightened the mood around the playing group if there are tensions
Whether Sando has lost the players, time will tell. If players legitimately think his game plan is useless and his team selections are incorrect it won't take long to hit rock bottom. I really hope Danger is simply injured and not just pissed with the club, otherwise I think he's gone.

You missed the point of my post. I wasn't talking about vB as a player, but as a leader. To a reasonable degree, that's separate from his playing form.

I'm talking about his influence during the breaks to focus and motivate the other players.

We've clearly been lacking that drive, particularly before games and at 3 quarter time, and I think a fair amount of that is attributable to missing a strong leader (as opposed to just good players).

He had to get the players back on side. They needed to feel the love. It appears a few got a bit too comfy though. So now, he gives a few a rocket, and they dont like it.
