What makes it somewhat ridiculous is that Podsiadly refused to do some of the stuff the others did. Apparently had some quite strong views on some of the training techniques in the preseason so did his own thing. He has had absolutely no input from a coaching perspective.
This hurts my brain

Imagine doing 50kms a week while thinking "why the hell are we doing this", then getting into the season and having your misgivings vindicated.

Somewhat demoralising.

good teams will realise it, adjust and get on with it... i still think this endurance base will be of benefit later in the season...

Cats lost a close final in 2005, and were expected to push for a GF in 2006. They fell in a heap, and started 2007 shakily. There were significant questions about the club as a whole. Thompson was very nearly sacked. Players like Ablett, Corey, Chapman, Scarlett, Ottens etc. were questioned. The town was divided. Sponsors unhappy. I can remember the footy shows and newspaper articles. They were quite literally where we are).

They then had an independent review from the president down to the boot studder, and put every single underperforming person at the club on notice. 2007 was their last chance to perform, or else.

If you're comparing that to our situation than you are smoking something amazing.

Are we entering the City to bay fun run? ;-)

Sanderson is struggling, seems insecure. I thought he psyched his own players out when he described Geelong as the hardest road trip. Thought he psyched us out of the showdown when described port powers midfield as good as anyones.

Consider some of the opposition supporters trolling of Dangerfield last year to be more astute than wanted. For a supposed captain, he makes some dumb decisions and some big clangers.if he's on the coin he's suppose to be, with his media profile in victoria, i can see that some would be concerned with his performances.

I'm sure it's already been mentioned in another thread. good diversion today by chapman. get people talking this week on something that is more than 12 months away. rowey and bone will get 3 days out of that. I wonder whether they've got anything planned for next week if we go down to st Kilda. i'll say one thing, if we continue on our present path, they'll be out of their back-log of diversions half way through the year.

What did he say?

What did he say?

Pushing for a Good Friday game that won't happen.

As long as Steven Trigg and Rob Chapman are still in charge of this club, we will not get a good Friday game as a hosting club. We maybe lucky enough to be an away team in Victoria or for the late game in Perth but we will not host it in Adelaide.

That will not happen. We are still on the nose at AFL house.

My early predictions are - 4:00 kick off between North Melbourne and Carlton and then a 7:15 game in Perth between a WA club and anyone else. (it won't be a derby)

they did everything asked of them during the preseason. as it turns out the combination of the fitness program and the game plan has resulted in them only being competitive for 3 quarters before they have run out of legs. they then get a rocket for not running out games strong enough and embarrassing the club in last quarters. I'd be a bit pissed too.

cant agree with that. Preseason is over. Cant be used as an excuse for 3 weeks in a row when there was no problem in the NAB games.

so you are saying its 100% coaching and 0% the players.that is nonsense

they did what was asked of them throughout the preseason and we find that we are only fit enough to last 3 quarters. they know where we have effed up and it's got nothing to do with their preparation. they then get the rockets and blame attributed toward them it's probably about a lack of effort when they're absolutely spent. it's never going to be 0% v 100%, but I never said that anyway. in what ratio do you apportion blame.

most of the role of captain of the afc is not done during an actual game. vb is still the leader, it hasn't changed. if we are exhibiting poor leadership, it's because of him.

That's the thing though, vB is not there during the game. He's not in the middle of the huddle saying what needs to be said.

The outside media stuff has stuff all to do with leadership. Pushing the boys hard on the training track is the responsibility of the coaching staff.

If the club is failing to turn its younger players in to effective leaders, that's another thing, but I think we're definitely missing vBs leadership during matches.

turnovers will increase at an increasing rate as fatigue increases. I'd do a graph, but you know what I'm talking about. we could argue chicken and egg, but I can guarantee that any club that sends 22 players out to play that aren't fit enough will commit a lot of skill errors. fitness is primary, if you're not fit enough you will not be able to execute your skills anywhere near the level that you would otherwise be capable of.

and by fitness, I mean the right kind of fitness.

There seems to be to completely opposing views here. One is that he is too close to the players and cant make the tough decisions. The other is that he has caused a rift with the players because he let Bernie get traded, tried to trade some others and hurt their feelings after the Geelong game.

It cant be both.
Too close to some players maybe.. Favourites? Gold passes? Disillusionment?
People have even said it here and drips of it have been heard around the place..
Other things were also handled like crap, Johncock last year being just another..

how'd we go late in games last year?

The club is currently at the point where Geelong were at the same time in 2007. It's almost a carbon copy.

Actually Geelong were 2-1 after round three and had already flogged a team by 70+ points. They were eventually 2-3 after round 5 afterwhich they turned their season around completely, but they were playing much better footy than the Crows have displayed thus far.

VB was there last season

I've got no problem with us following the Geelong way of doing things.

My problem is that we've adopted the Geelong game plan only.

We didn't look at what they did PRIOR to their golden run; the list management decisions, investing in talented youth, developing a strong core of senior leaders (not letting them survive as peripheral role players), delisting/trading players who are ok footballers only.

We've tried to adopt the style without first making sure we have the substance.

Was it really no problem in the NAB games? We lost the last quarter vs Port Magpies. We overran Carlton who (a) took their midfield off and (b) look just as fit as we do right now. We were overrun by the Giants, admittedly there were some mitigating circumstances in that we were down to 19 by the last quarter.

Takes me back to late last year - Vlad had something to say about the Crows professionalism and openness during Tippettgate, compared to Essendons (justifying the sanctions), Chapman sternly responded, Vlad repeated his comments on another radio station... everything was firing up and what happened next...
Crows are going to get an Anzac Day game at Adelaide Oval in 2014.
...which later turned into a home game on the Anzac weekend
...which actually turned out to be an away game at Edihad Stadium against the Dogs.
Wow.

Goals against us from our turnovers are something like 14, 16 and 14 in the 3 games to date. No team can win games while coughing up goals on a silver platter as we have been doing.

Apart from poor skill levels, another contributing factor surely has to be our ridiculous game plan which reminds me very strongly of one of Craig's failed game plans. Move the ball sideways like a crab until we are forced to kick it or handball it, usually to the opposition. It's a fkg nightmare to watch.

Also paying a loose man in defence every week while trying to score with a 3 man forward line has whiskers on it. The opposition gladly have the spare man in our crowded defence, and bring their forward lines up to leave half an oval clear for them to run back into once we turn the ball over.

It's been the same every week so far, so we don't seem to learn from our horror experiences.

As for our fitness - pfffft!! We have been trained to be long distance plodders while the game is played in quick bursts. It looks like draft horse up against thoroughbreds. there's fitness, and on the other hand, there's football fitness. We don't have the latter.

If we keep this fkg dud that we have a a fitness coach, I won't be renewing my membership next year. Two fked up years in a row is too much for me.

Thread full of people affirming the same things ad nauseum until "we really feel like this" becomes "fact, because we really feel like this"; transitions to debate about the "fallout" and "realities" of agreed (pretend) facts.

18th in the league for tackles in the last quarter
16th for disposals

Definitely speaks to fitness. Can't get our hands on the man or the ball

He "psyched out" the players? Jesus Christ. If all it takes for our players to crumble into a heap is for the coach to describe the opposition as being top shelf, then we may as well sack all 50-odd players and look for replacement at pick 200.

Danger has clearly been playing under duress. I don't know if this is his call or the club's, but it's time to stop it. We've got co-captains, we don't "need" him out there if he's not right. Give him time.
