Don't count on making the final this year either. Last year was a fluke!

I know the White/Freo topic has ended but I don't blame you for being a little angry with the way it happened. It is natural for some players to want to return home, but when teams cheat the salary cap in order to lure a player home, the line has to be drawn.

Believe it or not, I was a little pissed off too. White was a St Kilda supporter who grew up in Frankston and was the exact kind of player we were targeting. He and Spider would have been an excellent combination. Sadly, despite our best efforts, we were defeated by a side who cheated the salary cap and surprise surprise, made a Grand Final a few years later. In footy terms, the old adage "cheaters never prosper" is far from true.

Having said that, after nabbing Hamill from the blues because of their salary cap pressures, I feel a little better now.

Well, wasn't it reported in the papers last week that Melbourne are going to post an $800,000 loss due to the failure of your pokie venture? Wasn't one of the Melbourne fans suggesting that the Demons should get compensation for the change in gaming legislation on another thread?

Isn't it true that Melbourne did finish last in recent years?
Isn't it true that you cheated the salary cap?
Isn't it true that Joe Gutnick saved your club from the merger with Hawthorn?
Isn't it true that at the merger meeting, the Melbourne members did vote for the merger?
Isn't it true that while all this was happening, North Melbourne did make all those preliminary finals AND win two premierships?

Answer the questions.

It's not that I take any comfort from the reported loss made by Melbourne, but if you're going to defend your club, try and use some facts and create a plausible argument from it. What was the TRUTH that you mentioned? The correct facts? Come on, try and convince us that you actually do know something about your club. If you can't, then just stay on the Melbourne board and chat about which player has the cutest arse and leave the serious footy chat to those who know. Writing "Your posts are a LOT OF CRAP", well, unless you're still in primary school, it doesn't show much for your thought processes.

Sorry Shinners, I know elt has already pointed this out, but nothing upsets me more than hearing/reading that Joe Gutnick saved Melbourne. It is simply not true.

Ms Storm can claim all she likes that the Melbourne vote was questionable, but at the end of the count, Melbourne's financial members had voted to merge. End of story.

The only reason Melbourne exists as a separate entity today is because Hawthorn Football Club members saved them by voting against the merger.

Not only does the misplaced praise fall onto Mr Gutnick's shoulders, but I have never read/heard/seen one piece of gratitude from Melbourne supporters to what we did for them.

Every time such a claim is printed in a newspapers or I hear it on a radio, I fire off a letter. Not once have I been published or replied to; not once has the factual error been corrected. I really don't understand why.

I'm hoping a book gets written one day, from all sides of the story, to tell how it really was.

Sorry Mark. I personally am getting a little lethargic about bagging clubs' finances. Apart from Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon (and I realise that they too are not completely invincible), every other club is monetarily rooted!

10 years we've been saying it. It is time that some of you lesser clubs merge. You are dragging the cream of the crop down. This fight for life is a futile embarrassment.

I too am sick of seeing my football club continuously play a high standard of football for a sustained period of time... and then to be made to play in the same league as Richmond... Collingwood... Fremantle... Port adelaide... Geelong... who have given nothing to the game... on the field... in the last ten years... St Kilda and Melbourne could be added to this list a solitary grand final appearance is no where near good enough...

So Figjam I too am sick of the Strong performing teams... being dragged back by those that have had little success for a very long time...

The scRoos have had a great last decade. Collingwood has endured their worst ever. Your sustained period of success is from 1993 - 2000. Ours is from 1892 - 1994.

Do not for a second think that the team that will be walking out on the paddock come March 31, is in anyway related to the decision making mockery of the Tony Shaw and Kevin Rose regime. The disaster ended at the end of '99. We now have a team that will bring success within the next couple of years and build on that success as the years go by.

The Poos will struggle to make the eight this year and even if you do, it will be but a mere tease, as your aging list withers into oblivion. Sustained success from North Melbourne!? What a ****in joke!

Stop sponging money from the deserved clubs with true success.

Its not worth the effort, most dees supporters on this board dont like being proved wrong and will bring out there favourite weapon "mud slinging" when they have realised they lost this little battle.

b) melb did make a 800k loss in 2000

Collingwood Magpies/Williamstown Seagulls in the same class as Carlton and Essendon. In what respect ? Collingwood have relied on welfare draft concession for years. Essendon has the best supporter base and Carlton have the dosh.

I wouldn't say that Richmond are monetarily rooted!

We did post a $600,000 loss (which has since been offset by $200,000 compensation for the Colonial Debacle) but the Tigers are completely debt free and have a couple of million in the bank.

A financial position that any number of clubs would gladly take!

i wont deny that melbourne has had some major hiccups along the way but there are a few things we need to get straight:
1. Joe will not bail out on us and seeing as i am the only person here who knows him personally and talked to him more than a few times about it i think there is no more to discuss!
2. i didn't hear anything about melbourne losing money all i heard was that we actually made a profit which is pretty good considering we had to pick up the pieces and start all over again.
3. Sabre you have no proof the Scwarta did that and Melbourne DID NOT appeal againts Farmer they thought about it but let it go which is exactly what you should be doing!

thank god you morons cant come and stuff up our board anymore with me and dee_girl9 being the moderators!
