One of the reasons for the merger was to take over glenferrie. Glenferrie which is now ruled out as unsafe for anything except auskick

Then after the filed merger and Hawthorn were trying to get Waverley upgraded and continue to be used I remember a demons run through banner basically disrespecting wavereley

And now they see it as an area to cultivate.

Caulfield sounds like a good plan though

Somehow I don't think the cheersquad from decades ago have had any input on the temporary move to Waverley.

Casey 1/10
Waverly 5/10
Caulfield 8/10

30 years since the failed merger the Dees are heading to Waverley as their training base

Waverley Park had one of the best grass surfaces around, luscious and full of life. Far better than that cow dung oval that is GMHBA.

campaigner of a ground to watch at ground level though. That rise in the middle of the ground made it next to impossible to see the action on the other side of the ground unless you were a decent way back

People that dont follow AFL must think its weird that "Melbourne" keep getting further from Melbourne to train

Who hasn't moved? Blues, North (despite many attempts to move them everywhere), WB, Geelong obvs, Richmond.

Pies moved from Vic Park which was very close to Collingwood to Olympic Park. Dons moved from Windy Hill to near the airport which is still Essendon territory.

Hawthorn went to Waverley and now Dingley, neither of which are anywhere near Glenferrie Oval. Saints moved to Seaford then decided it was shit and moved back to Moorabbin. Melbourne train sometimes at Gosch's Paddock (which is just an oval) and sometimes at Casey Fields which is 50km away. Makes sense if there is an established facility sitting idle that they use it.

Over here East Perth and Subiaco now share the former home ground of West Perth, East Perth's bitter rival. West Perth relocated to the Northern suburbs years ago, East Perth's home ground is now a rectangle and Subiaco Oval is now just the oval with no facilities. All those grounds are within a couple of km of each other. Makes sense as cities grow from what they were in the 1800s and 1900s when all these clubs were founded that you don't just have all of the clubs within a 10km radius.
