I'm contemplating a big dip on you guys at around $1.90 to make the eight.

My thinking is; odd season stuff is illogical and bulls**t.

Your best eighteen is definately in the top five or six in the comp.

Your draw is not unreasonable.

14 wins last year, with a fade at the end; why should this change too dramatically this year (Neitz injury is not an answer) as your list is not old.

I believe you are over the odds with the bookies.

Am I mad???

PS Thanks for your thoughts in advance

PSS Will Scott Thompson show us the great stuff I think he can do?

Thanks, good to see a non-Melbourne supporter backing us.

Scott Thompson is a really good footballer, showed some good signs for us, and was developing nicely. I have to admit though, from what I've seen, Id rather Molooooney.

Thompson will be a very handy footballer for you guys... if you can keep him on the park. That was his biggest worry when playing for us. Plus he can be slack with his disposal.

But, he is a ball winner who doesn't mind the hard stuff!

5th to 8th looks about right for us.

Was very disappointed to see Thommo go as he appeared the type of player who would be a leader down the track. Did some pretty influential things.

With that being said I am rapt with Moloney and he has shown the same grunt as what Thommo had along with added speed and skill.

I'm tipping the Dees to have a fine year and be in the top six.
Got some good young players on the rise, although Thompson is a loss.
Good luck guys!

PS - One word of warning. Seen a lot of Paul Johnson over here and he has been a long way off it. He needs to turn it around soon.

Cheers, good luck to the Roos too.

As for Paul Johnson, a lot of people are naming him in our best 22 already but I am far from convinced yet. From what I've seen he is mobile for a big man and has a good kick. The glaring problem is he cannot take a contested mark and IMO this will hold him back from being in our best side.

Heres hoping he can develop this side of his game as he could be quite a handy player.

Thanks....seems like there is a good atmosphere in here, im liking it.

I havent seen much of Johnson, all I have seen was the goal he kicked against Adelaide, snapping it through. Looked very good then, as dees_best said, he is quite mobile.
Hope you're wrong about the marking, it'd be great to see another tall help Neitz up forward and get rid of that **** Holland.

Melbourne will make the eight alright. Should be looking at going even further. You were good last season and were unluckily rolled in the final against the Bummers and you've recruited exceptionally well.

If Sylvia develops and I've seen him play some exceptional games down at Sandringham, your midfield will be up there with the best.

We should make the finals, surely this horrid pattern will come to an end. Once in the finals, we are capable of going far on any given day, especially if we play at the MCG. (although our last two finals at the G, we choked!)

I'm hoping a player like Cameron Bruce can step up this season to become a concrete Top 50 player in the AFL. He has the potential, but must do it more often when it counts. If he can do that, along with good seasons from our other leaders, we will have a very good year.

There are three players who will be the barometer this year:
White,Neitz & TJ
If all three fire on a week in week out basis the premiership is not out of the question.

Agreed, but when has that ever happened??? 2000 - Neitz, 2002 - Johnno & 2004 - White, if only we could get them all firing together in 1 year!

TJ is the player in our side who needs consistency more than any other. He is an superb player on his day but his day only comes a few times a year. Whitey will just need to adjust to the new ruck rules and he should be very good. Neitz IMO unfortunately only has maybe one good year left in him. He has been a great player for our club and the AFL but IMO is coming to the end of his career. This is the year a new tall needs to stand up beside him and start kicking goals. It will be Miller if he can be taught to lead into the F50 as much as he leads out of it.

I reckon Neitz has a couple more years left but needs to work something out in his game whereby he can have an influence on the contest on a bad day. Too often his bad day equals zero influence. A fit and firing Trapper delivering the ball to him consistently will help alot and also another tall GOAL KICKING forward would help. We seem to have a number of tall forwards but not really any to kick many goals with regularity.

If he's having a bad day, I reckon we stick him the middle for half a quarter. Can hit a few bodies, run around with a full back and get some confidence up. Couldn't do too much harm.

Yeah we've got to move him around a bit more, even play him loose down back (if we're losing perhaps) and let him get a couple of kicks and marks and get some confidence up. Up forward we can mix it up, with Robertson, Holland, Green, Yze, Bruce or Miller leading out of the goalsquare. Versatility is important so it cold be good if we rotated the goalsquare a bit when Neiotz is having an off day.
