Anyone heard from or seen Petty since the game? If he's out as well, then it will be very interesting to see what we do. Tomlinson will come in obviously, but we'd still need another tall defender. Do we try Turner who looks ok but is raw? Or do we throw TMac down back? Majak? Hibberd maybe at a stretch can play tall, but it will be his first full game in awhile. Hopefully the big fella is ok
If Franklin’s appeal doesn’t get up then they can probably afford to go with just two genuine tall defenders if Petty can’t get up. Combinations of Sam Reid, McDonald and one of Ladhams, McLean or Amartey is not super threatening. Gawn is the one I would send back if things started going wrong and then play with a smaller forward line instead of having three talks there.

If another tallish player was required I’d rather rush Hibberd, who got through three quarters of the VFL game, than chuck Turner in there. Hibberd has a lot of guile and looked competitive and unhindered against Frankston. Turner doesn’t look like he has the size to handle an AFL level forward at this stage.

Next week is the true test. That loss to break the streak was always going to happen at some time, and up until Freo’s terrible two weeks in the wet they were the team I thought most likely to do it.

How does the team back up after that performance? If it was short term illness related, then we should see the intensity return. If we don’t see it return, then I’m not sure what’s going on.

If Petty is OK I think Tomlinson, Lever and Petty is still a solid AFL level backline and better than many. If Petty is also out and there’s no Tmac and of course Joel Smith too…

Yep nailed my thoughts post game. I was very disappointed in how we crumbled in the second half but after 17 in a row I’m prepared to give us a mulligan and see how we back up. Important too we win this week as we will go two wins clear of Freo or Brisbane again.

Yeah I guess we’ll see what happens next week. The fact that we had Freo almost goalless in the first half does lend it a bit of credibility, compared to Geelong who folded right from the centre bounce. I guess it’s hard to motivate yourself to overcome illness in a home and away game too.

The more concerning thing is how good Freo looked I think. I don’t even think we’ve played football like that in the last few years, except maybe in the GF.
Both late games against Geelong

A wake up call is seldom a bad thing. Glad the boys have done been seriously challenged, or should I say had their pants pulled down. Media pumping our tyres at every opportunity doesn't help. Despite our clean slate before this game it's never seemed to me like we've been invincible (and to be honest we don't have to be this time of year).

Very few teams are invincible throughout an entire season. There's a lot to play out this year and it will be interesting to see where Freo end up - but they've impressed aside from that diabolical game they had against the Saints in R2.

I think I've seen enough of Weidemann.
