This is looming as a possible match of the year, and what a day to have it. Two teams in top form, the Pies probably better at the moment, but this could seriously be a shootout of epic proportions.
Your thoughts on matchups, predictions etc etc.
For me Whelan has to play and take Didak, as he was pretty good on him last year. Carroll will take Rocca (Carroll is a lot stronger than he looks, beat Quentin Lynch convincingly who IMO is stronger than Rocca) and Rivers on Tarrant, if Tarrant leads up the ground Rivers will take Rocca's space.
Buckley is my real worry, no clear matchup for him. Neitz on Presti is a given, along with Clement on Robbo, and Wakelin on the other tall. After last year, who can take Yze?

Hopefully no one will turn on the flood? I don't think our teams do it at all so it will be awesome to see two fairly even teams put the foot down and I hope it's gonna be an all out shootout. Can't wait for the midfield battle...Gonna be sweeeeeet

First, I will go with addressing some of your points:

*Collingwood are quite happy to have a low scoring affair - Our defense is quite strong, and generally matches up quite well with your forward line. However, the points have been coming relatively

*Whelan won't be playing, will he? If he doesn't, who is likely to play on Didak, and who on Leon?

*Quentin Lynch is NOT stronger than Rocca, and Rocca uses his strength significantly better than Lynch, as well as having better hands, more footy smarts, and a much better kick.

*You seem to be suggesting that if Tarrant leads up the ground, Rivers won't follow him - This would be a mistake, as if Tarrant is left unmarked around half forward and the wing, he can be deadly.

*With a matchup for Buckley, from your point of view, is Chris Johnson a good option?

*As for Yze, we have a few options that might be suitable. I'd like to see Harry O'Brien given the job, as he is taller, faster and stronger - Although he'd be outpointed for smarts. Another potential option is one of the Shaws, probably Heath, although Rhyce should be back for the weekend.

My bigger question is the engine room - Who do you think your taggers are likely to pick up?

Lockyer will take Yze.
Lockyer is a downright monty to get Aaron Davey - The only other option would be Heath Shaw, but I see this as the ideal role for Lockyer on the day. Yze would expose him overhead.

Think we might have a touch more depth in the midfield and our better key forwards are the reasons we can win the game. Expecting a massive fight though. Dee's small forwards our dangers and keeping Johnstone quiet in the back half of the ground.

How I see matchups, with potential inclusions

Prestige - Neitz
Clement - Robertson
Wakelin - Dunn
Lockyer - Yze
H Shaw - Davey

Richards - White
Burns - McLean
O'Bree - Moloney
Holland - Johnstone
Lonie - Bruce
Licuria - Green
B Johnson - Pickett
Buckley - McDonald

Rocca- Carroll
Fraser - Holland
Tarrant - Rivers
Didak - Godfrey
Davis - Bell

Benches

O'Brien Thomas Pendlebury Morrison

Jamar Bate C Johnson Sylvia

I think there will be serious issues for both sides defending small to mid sized forwards which will be exposed by whoever wins in the middle. I see it as extra class (us) against extra fitness/running (you). I'm really worried about us running with you all day.

Extra class in the middle perhaps. Nowhere else. Also we have some of the best mid sized defenders in the game. Well certainly the best one in the league in Clement, and then some very talented ones in O'Brien(will be promoted), Shaw(plays at least an inch above his height because of his aerial strength) and Maxwell(who obviously won't play). Also Lockyer has had a great season stopping the oppositions small quick forwards, mainly due to his strength and smarts. Clement can also play on anyone if a particular individual starts to get out of hand. I think we are in a better position to stop your small to mid forwards than you are ours. Swan however will be a big loss for us because he solidifies the extra running we have in our team that allows us to run over the top of teams. I would also keep a close eye out for our youngster Pendlebury. If he gets extended time in the middle, you can throw out the idea that you have an edge in class. I might be going over the top about a second gamer, but IMO he looks like one of those players who can play quality games now because of his composure and confidence. He can also run all day and is a super smart player which could help replace what we lose with Swan out.

Lynch maybe stronger than Rocca but Lynch is a dumb footballer and doesn't know how to use his strength to outmark oponents. Rocca on the otherhand is brilliant at this. Clement is pretty light compared to some of his oponents but hardly ever gets beaten in a one on one contests.

I meant in the middle not all over the ground. I think we have a pretty big edge there.

I assume you are referring to fringe dwellers like Green and Yze. Neither true midfielders (Yze used to be). Daniher seems more obsessed by taggers in his midfield these days - McDonald, Godfrey, Bartram etc. Might be hard for him with his match-ups this week with the even Pies midfield.

Burns - McLean would be a great match-up. The master vs the apprentice. Got to love guys who play tough hard footy like these 2.

the crab to get yze

heath shaw's run out of defence to valuable to have him sitting in the goal square which is what will most likely happen if he goes to yze

I am very exited about this game. Going to be a ripper. Shoulg get 85,000 to this game. Hopefully Tarrant does his annual queens birthday theatrics!

I wouldn't call it annual, he got given a bath last year. But with Rocca in the side he has been free'd up a bit this year so he could have a blinder.

So pumped aobut this game, the rest of my family are Collingwood fans, and most of my mates are as well. Adds a bit of personal attachment to the outcome. :D

Brock , meet Brodie.

Who will tag Bruce? And Johnstone?

Brodie would want to watch himself against Brocky too. Unlike Brodie, Brock is a genuine tough nut.

In the middle Bruce, Johnstone, Pickett, McLean are all classy with disposal.

Looking at the lists, I say we have a clear advantage in the middle. But we're going to struggle to hold didak and leon, though Whelan is rumoured to play now, so we should be able to negate at least one.

Rivers won't play on Tarrant, he'll get a third tall or a mid sized player up forward, perhaps Buckley - so that he can fill space and assist Holland and Carrol who will get Rocca and Tarrant respectively.
