My guess it that it would be as worth picking up as Skid Row's last album was. (2003 - "Thickskin")

One of my mates (an old Skid Row fan) picked it up just because it was Skid Row (albeit minus Seb Bach) and it is undoubtedly the worst album I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.

There's even a "Blink 182" (not really but you know what I mean) version of "I Remember You" on it titled.....

....wait for it............

"I Remember You Two"

!!!

(no - I have no idea what they were thinking.)

I can't imagine that any "new" Def Leppard album would be worth listening to, but you never know.....you may get a good laugh out of it. :)

Leave it.

I've said it before, but the best album Def Leppard ever made was also the one that led to them losing the plot.

A great hard rock album, Hysteria made them realise they could top the chart with albums and singles. After that, they became more and more overtly commercial, with heaps of power ballads and ditching the hard rock sound that had built them a fanbase in the 80s.

They replicated the Bryan Adams sound to a tee, and anything after Adrenalize isn't worth a thing. Slang followed it, and was formulaic, sleep-inducing ballad-laden pap. They became the British Bon Jovi, and started playing like the middle-aged men they are.

You're better off whacking on an old copy of On Through The Night and re-living old times, and spending the ten bucks on a six-pack.

Melody, commercial appeal, song structure and hard rock are not mutually exclusive.

No filler on that album, and it was excellently produced by Mutt Lange... mammoth sound all the way through, with big drums all the way through creating a dynamic and (relative to most chart music) heavy effect.

The fact it has vocal harmonies doesn't diminish from the fact it's still at the heavier end of the commercial spectrum musically, although like Metallica's self-titled album it opened the direction to (attempts at) really commercial stuff, and was followed by (attempts at) writing commercially feasible stuff rather than just good songs.

It remains one of the greatest albums of all time, regardless of genre, but for my favourite Def Leppard stuff I'd largely select earlier material.

Thanks Darky I might give it a miss then.

gPhonque, believe it or not I think Thickskin is a fantastic CD I'm overly impressed with I Remember You 2, either so I agree with you there.

Please tell me you're joking!

Man....that first song on the CD........Marilyn Manson should sue them for blatantly ripping off "The Beautiful People"!!! I've NEVER heard anything as blatantly unoriginal as that! Big statement I know, but I stand by it.

I'm guessing you meant to say you were NOT overly impressed...??

I was literally rolling around on the floor crying tears of laughter when I heard I Remember You Two.... :p :p

If youre a def leppard fan and you can stomach Hysteria which is a landmark album for production in my opinion (and so it should be given how long it took to make) I would say get X ...its kinda a cross between Adrenilize and Pyromania...going back to a more rocky stance...

definitely worth 10 bucks if you like that style of commercial hard rock

Skid Row - Thick Skin is quite a grower of an album and after living with it for a while now i think quite a good album probably making my top 10 of hard rock releases from 2003...particulary the first half of the album is stronger but fades out song wise .....some huge riffs in there..I Remember You 2 would have been better left off i gotta agree there..

A Beautiful People rip off? LOL WTF? haha

Obviously you never heard early Skid Row like Slave to the Grind...and maybe Marylin Manson did..HELLO?!!!!!

Marylin Manson...too funny! even his bass player (co-writer of most of the better stuff on the last Manson album)Tim Tim Skold was in a Skid Row wanna be band - Shotgun Messiah..(second coming album rules)

I must admit although Hysteria was good I would have to say that Pyromania is my favorite Def Leppard Cd buy a long way.

Gotta agree with you on Thickskin all the way.

There's no doubt Pyromania is a strong album...but maybe I prefer High N Dry in the more hard rocking style...(both are just a different chapter to Lep Sound - X is kinda a mix of the two sounds/eras)

and if you dig that older lep style..id suggest you search out anoher old UK band called Heavy Pettin' and particular their debut album Lettin Loose...recently re released in Europe on the Majestic label...old style Def Lep

np. Black N Blue - debut (awesome!)

Come on now - let's not let our musical biases get in the way of using our ears.

oh_my_hat was able to pick up exactly what I was refering to.

You know, I'm so unfamiliar with Slave To The Grind that I could play you every song on the guitar if I wanted to. (that was one of my "learning guitar" albums when I was 12yo)

Marylin Manson...too funny!

Like I said - use your ears!!! Oh_my_hat got it in one, and yet you can't seem to hear it?

even his bass player (co-writer of most of the better stuff on the last Manson album)Tim Tim Skold was in a Skid Row wanna be band - Shotgun Messiah..(second coming album rules)

I couldn't give a toss - I'm not a Marilyn Manson fan.

Blame Mutt Lange for that. They became too over-produced long ago.

Having said that, Slang was one of my favourite albums. I really enjoyed it. A big depature for them but it was never going to work commercially.

I downloaded a couple of songs from Euphoria and kind of liked Demolition Man, a return to the old days but the fans were bagging it on a DF forum. Go figure.

X is supposedly one of their best releases in a long time, but how many times have we heard that from a hasbeen band? A couple of songs were OK but they're past it. Too old for the kids to get into and shafted the fans years ago. Even the video for Now was all about the past.

Give it up Joe. Retire and count the cash.

RIP Steve Clark.

Def Leppard have definately hit mid-life crisis no doubt. I agree with most of what's been said and to think 'X' will win the old fans back is NOT going to happen. No sireee !!

Def Lep needed to re-invent themselves ONE LAST SHOT as they almost did with Slang but decided to ditch that great idea and roll over the wet patch that got everyone excited with Hysteria....

Either FIRE UP >> PLAY ANGRY or simply roll over a fast def

Gotta agree on Mutt Lange talking the blame/credit for the Hysteria sound...from a production point of view I personally think its mighty..but I gotta admit Im quite sick of the album from a listening point of view maybe cos it was such a huge success..

DockerBrat Im with ya on Slang..a refreshing album but none the less really didnt work for them ..then again not too many 80s hard rock bands managed to do too well with staying modern in the grunge years..

And for a band that has sold as much as Leppard has I think theyll always have an audience...maybe not what it used to be in terms of major sales but still an x factor (pun intended) of fans who will want or be curious for new Def Lep album..

Anyone seen the Def Lep movie thats at the video stores? Kinda amusing but I guess its hard to get the complete story in such a short space of time..

Hah! That was hilarious. The scene with the young Rick Allen wandering around with an arm missing saying he's a famous drummer was a classic.

Joe Elliot came across as a right control freak, which I beleive he is. "I'd rather be in the worst rock and roll band than the best punk band". Ermm.. given the choice, I'd prefer the latter.

At the end of the day the movie was a bit too sticky sweet, from my head .. yeah you get the idea.

Saw it awhile ago....enjoyed it immensely.
And just to think if Rick Allen hadn't lost control and the whole process didn't happen, you'd be wondering how far the Pyromania sound would've lasted ??
A great tragedy that paid dividends but losing Steve Clark was
more horrific !! Wonder if it've been better to have Steve Clark play on one leg instead ... :D Die Hard the Lepps
