I agree, but all of these moves you suggested have already been tried this year, bar perhaps letting Butler in the middle. Additionally, Shannon Hurn was played on the wing a bit last week, as was Schofield.

So I don't know if they're quite as one-dimensional as you say.

That stuff doesn't happen against good sides though, Hawthorn as an example, and those are the sides we need the midfield support against.

We need a quick lock down defender (Armfield type) and another medium/small defender who can rebound just as well when Hurn gets tagged (Scotland / Fisher type)

I think we are still searching for both those players, I cant see them atm.

I guess if Bennell gets fit there seems to be a spot for him in that defence, though i doubt it would be this year.
We really have lacked Schofields run and carry this year. Because thats what differentiates his rebounding to Hurns and gives us more variety.
