Croad isn't being used as much for a forward target. He played all over the ground on Sunday, He had 11 kicks, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 12 possesions, he kicked 1.3 and he assisted in a couple of goals.

Longmuir kicked 3.3, he is starting to find some form.

I think all of these players are capable of good things on their current form.
Clive lacks match fitness! Sitting on the bench in the WAFL doesn't give you the conditioning to run out a full game at AFL level two weeks in a row. Hence my pathetic comment "Clive used all his energy against the Roos and will fall in a screaming heap on the weekend"

Croad isn't a forward target! He doesn't have the speed to be a consistent leading forward. Hence pathetic comment 2 "Croad and leading in the same sentence just does't work "

The game against Richmond Longmuir had 4 kicks. He needs to consistently kick goals rather than rely on 1 game. 1 Game does not show that he is finding form!

Croad may lack brains or whatever but he definitely doesn't lack speed.

And Longmuir was on the bench most of the time against Richmond. They weren't the conditions for him.

So why would you think Leigh Brown plays for us still and not the Kangaroos?

But he does lack consistency! With Troy Wilson you know that he will come to the ball no matter what is in his way. Croad doesn't always lead. When he does lead he leaves it to late i.e. after the opportunity to get it to him quicky has passed. Croady seems to me like he is always trying to do the speccy kind of goal rather than the team orientated goal.

Can't say I'm suprised. You don't seem to know a lot about any of our players.

Atleast you're not like Jod. He didn't know who was on his own list :p ;)

To get back on track, not many teams play the standard 6 forward positions. Quite regularly teams will play with only one or maybe two forwards on the full forward line, and the rest of the forwards start between half forward and the wing, thus creating a big open area to run into in the forward line.

I make this point in that alot of forward pockets are now playing up the ground, so the defenders must be miserly but must also have a bit of speed in their legs.

Chick on Medhurst sounds wise.

Longmuir is deceptive with his marking skills and will hand the ball over to runners coming past (his kicking past 45 metres is iffy).

Ignoring Farmer is like ignoring Fido, in 5 minutes you could be made to look an absolute fool.

Croad may be down back.

I dont think chick should be on medhurst. He is a dangerous player but chick will be a play maker up forward. Let them try and negate Chick.

I would have thought wirra on medders as he definately has the goods to match it with this sneaky opportunist both in the air and at ground level. In fact wirra will flogg him at ground level.

I think medders is the type of bloke to spit it when things arent going his way.

Wirra is a good player but I still have a question mark over his defensive skills, can be very loose.

Medders does get grumpy and does some funny things, but generally he works the grump to his advantage. eg. hits the ball harder.

I agree with the attitude, why tag, you come catch me. That would make a good attacking game.

I don't think Wirra is the right match up for Medhurst. Wirra tends to run off players, which can be very positive and damaging for us, but can also hurt going back the other way. Wirra should take the weakest forward (or a resting midfielder) and continue to provide that run.

My option would be Wooden on Medhurst. He did the job on Milne a couple of weeks ago and has the pace to go with him.

I'd like to see Read on Farmer, if for no other reason than the potential for a blue. I think Read has that uncanny ability to be an annoying *****, and that kind of player can get in Farmer's head (hopefully) and distract him from the ball.

The tall match ups pretty much pick themselves, (depending on availabilty). Jako has to take J Lo, he's the only one back there big enough and strong enough. If Collica is fit he's the perfect match up for Waterhouse, if not Carroll is probably the best option. Croad (worryingly) is the one who bothers me. I think he'll be too mobile for McIntosh, so maybe Glass gets him and Milli can play at FF, solving another problem for us.

I'd actually like to see who the Dockers are going to play on our band of small forwards. Fido, Chick, Haynes and a resting Kerr/Cuz I think provide some match up problems for Freo (especially if we can have a decent Marking target (eg Willow, Milli, Johnson). We WILL miss Gaspar, he's becoming crucially important at CHF.

Should be a cracker of a game, I'm looking forward to it.

Croad would be the least of our problems. In fact, he is his own biggest problem. Jak would be a good match up for Jlo only if in the HF line not FB.

I would like to see woosh use the extra man in defence and give willo and the ant plenty of room up front.

I reckon we may see it pan out this way ??

I'm only talking match-up wise with Croad. Despite all of his failings, he is an incredibly good athlete. One day (let's hope it's not this week) he may just work out how to use that for his advantage in a way other than trying to take mark of the year.

If we play an extra man in defence, Freo end up with an extra man in defence. When that happens we end up with another game like Hawthorn, where we rebound across the HB line beautifully, and continually cough it up to a loose opponent at HF. Our best bet is to let our guys beat there man one on one IMO.

Chick has done SFA up forward. I don't care how much work he does off the ball, forwards have to kick goals and I'm not sure Chick has kicked even one yet this season? Against the crows he just blazed away from 50 instead of looking for other options. I think it's time he plays in defense for a while where his tenacity can be more use to the team.

You're better off not listening to Jod.

And Jod, Eagle_Fan is a chick and she seems to know a bit about footy... probably more than yourself.

Stick in there Freo_luva, Jod is just trying to change the subject as their defensive match-ups are a shambles. :D
