3 MILKMAN - The sight of the milkman doing his early morning rounds is an image that now only exists in old photographs, and in the memories of those born before about 1980. Possibly some country towns still have milkmen (I personally don't know of any), but I doubt you would see one in any of the major cities.

Bloody good service too.

Toll Booth workers are becoming obsolete in Australia because we have a tight credit system. If you don't pay it will eventually come back to bite you.

A lot of 3rd world countries (Including Italy :-) don't have the governmental support to chase up people who don't pay their e-Tags

Que viva The toll booth worker!!

I don't know what you've seen in Italy, but certainly all the ones I went through required you to pass through a boom gate.

Did you ever see that episode of The Young Ones, where the dastardly TV Detector Man arrived at the door? That was one of the funniest things I have ever seen, especially when Rick broke down in tears and wrote a poem to protest his innocence. I don't know who played the TV Detector Man, but he is one of the best comedians I have seen.

Hadnt, until just then!!

Thanks for the heads up! Just did a Google search, and I think the guy you are looking for is Roger Sloman

The Door to Door painting Salesman is getting pretty rare these days.

What do boom gates have to do with anything?

Toll booth workers are becoming obsolete in Australia because of the implimentation of e-Tag style systems.
Boom gates are disruptive to traffic flow and are being replaced by cameras.

Not passing through the boom gate was the result for not paying to go on the freeway, nowaways you can still go on the freeway however the camera will catch you and you will be fined.
Cheaper infrastrucute + more potential revenue through fines = smart investment.

If you dont have an eTag or credit on your eTag it will cost you eventually. If you choose not to pay the fine it will get passed on to debt collecters and will eventually end up in court. This is thanks to a tight credit system that exists in Australia.

Other countries, particular 3rd world countries (and I would include Southern Italy as part of this group) do not have this governmental support for naughty people who dont pay their e-Tags. Therefore introducing an eTag system would be a bad investment because the people simply wouldnt give a toss about topping up their eTags because they know that nothing can be done for not paying the fine

Um, because we're talking about Italy where boom gates are everywhere. You just said people in Italy can get away with not paying. But if people aren't paying, I'm curious about how they're magically getting through the boom gates in the first place...

If their integrity on the soccer field is anything to go by I'm sure they've found a way to cheat the boom gate system as well.

No mention of boom gates of here.

In other words Italy doesn't have eTag style systems like Australia because the motorists would simply enter without paying and there is no support from the government and credit agencies to chase up those that dont pay.
Therefore they shall continue with the boom gate system.

How do you mean?

Well any implementation of simplified tax returns will obviously hurt the industry, although the amount is obviously subjective.

Couple that with an increasing amount of knowledge available of computer programs capable of doing most basic accountancy issues and I would imagine that accountancy is going to slowly refine itself to being a much much more high end profession, i.e. tax planning and specialist issues.

I think you're getting accountants confused with bookkeepers. As for tax returns... simple individual ITRs make up a miniscule proportion of your average tax accountant's practice. I doubt these reforms are keeping them up at night.

On the flip side financial regulation is becoming tighter, financial planning is a growing area, and the CLERP program kicks into high gear again in the next couple of years. If anything, demand for accountants is increasing exponentially.

Them blokes who had flat hats that would come around in the old days and put a clean pan in the dunny and cart away the full pan.

Still see Stow trucks around but they only suck out septic tanks now. The trucks don't have the aroma the old shit carters trucks had, them buggas must have had 120-150 pan capacity.
