Wouldn't say overrated, maybe by Richmond supporters, but not by the media. Is only an average player at the moment. Coming up to 50 games he needs to start to take the next step.

I've watched the Tiges V Blues game a couple of times now. It was extremely interesting comparing Deledio's game to that of first gamer, Bryce Gibbs. Deledio did well with his paper stats, but was no where near as effective as Gibbs. Deledio was playing his one dimensional getting on the end of a handball and running type game, but offered little else. Gibbs played HF flank where he kicked a nice goal, plus did an unbelievable handball to Waite setting up another. He also played midfield, and was involved in several clearances, plus he landed a turnover tackle on a Richmond midfielder who was about to pump it into the forward 50 at a crucial part of the game. Late in the game he even played at fullback and kept his opponent quiet for a crucial period. When team-mates were running out of defense Gibbs was there shepherding and directing traffic. Deledio is already a mile behind Gibbs in terms of footy smarts, and al-round football ability. So is he over-rated? I think he is a very good player, but still has a lot of work to do if he wants to become elite. :)

Agree with most of what you said there. Maybe dropping him back to Coburg for a week would spark him up?

Gibbs has a mile to go before becoming a good player. As much as he looked good and Deledio didn't, Deledio still has more runs on the board. Blues fans getting exited over Gibbs remind me of people getting exited about Lara Bingle until they see her face, premature ejaculation guys.

Rather than the rhetoric, just go and watch a replay of the game. Gibbs does things that very good 150+ gamers do already. The other thing I forgot to mention is this guy has got courage in bucket loads. He found himself on the end of a hospital pass just out from CHF, with 105kg+ of Fev charging down, with 3 Tiges defenders, plus another Richmond player closing from the other direction. In a flash he decided it was his, coped the hit, and took a fantastic pressure mark without flinching. His versatility is outstanding. I guess you'd really call him a utility. He knows exactly how to adapt to midfield, forward and defensive roles. He is brilliant at extracting the hotly contested ball, and is equally effective at playing a link role. No wonder Hughes was over the moon at getting Gibbs. :)

and is equally effective at playing a link role. No wonder Hughes was over the moon at getting Gibbs. :)
apply for a job at inside footy with the crap you're dishing up here parrot, you're in the wrong game.
gibbs has a pea heart and it's easy for him not to flinch when he plays the wings and runs away from the big bad footy players.

Yes he is overrated.

Yes Sherman is better than him.
He's better than Sherman. Sherman is nothing than a cheap handball receiving ********, who creams his dacks when he kicks a goal every once in a while. Extremely overated.
Deledio will become a very good player, but still behind Griffen and Franklin from 2004 draft.

As I said, premature ejaculation, it's just one match. I still remember how Walker starred against WC in one of his first games and did nothing after. Gibbs had a good game but Deledio's first game was impressive as well.

As for Gibbs playing like a 150+ gamer,. Premature ejaculation. Come back when he's played 4 solid years of football. Until then Deledio and Gibbs can't be called stars.

Yes but Deledio can run sub 11 sec 100 m straight line......

Seems to have been on a rather steep form decline since his first season and struggled to find the game breaking flashes we saw on display at times in 05. I really doubt he will become any more than a good player.

Deledio also played a very classy first game, and ended up with a solid first season.

Those comparing Gibbs to Deledio are out of their mind.

Correct.

Gibbs has far more poise and football nous than someone like Deledio who did jack against Russell on the weekend. Brendan Goddard is a better footballer than Deledio and the ability to run off Judd has people pumping up his tyres. Goddard can kick over the lines accurately off one step because he vision and that skill will always hurt the opposition more than foot speed.

Deledio should be grateful we didn't put Walker on him. :thumbsu:
