I actually had a look at the website the other day and it looks pretty good. They offer full courses through respected uni's.

I think the positives is that you can study 4 semesters per year, instead of the standard 2. You can also choose your own workload so you can get it done quicker.

One thing to check is if they offer HECS.

I dont know about studying online but unis do offer distance units. Im doing some distance/flexible units this semester and they're taught all online, the only thing is not every unit can be taught online but sometimes theyre can be exceptions.

Does anyone recommend doing a Uni course online through Open Universities while holding down a full time job?

I'm seriously thinking about it, something along the lines of Financial Planning.

Is it regarded as highly as a normal uni course?

Bear in mind I haven't really studied since high school (2001) and wouldn't know how I'd go at writing essays etc.

Anyone done it this way?

The degree is exactky the same.
Go for it, its a great way to do Uni, and they have a hecs equiv.

You can do external uni degrees from the actual uni's as well. Ive gone back to Uni this year (havent studied since 2001 either) and am studying full time external.

Havent really looked into OU but maybe check if you can do financial planning at adelaide uni or uni sa externally.

what are you doing? I am doing my Masters at the moment externally. Slowly getting there, whilst working full time. thank goodness for 12 hr shifts.

Am doing Bachelor of Wine Marketing through Uni of Adelaide.

I love the external part. Have a week long compulsory residential school at the wine centre with a couple of the wine based subjects to do tasting assessments etc. but everything else theres no need to go to uni. Talking to the internal students at the Residential school, the study guides you get externally are better than what they get in lectures.

wow that sounds interesting.
I agree about the study guides etc being better.
Also I love being able to organise my time, to suit myself. Instead of my work having to fit around Uni.
I can be doing an assignment or researching stuff at midnight after a late shift. I can do online exams at the same time as well.
Its a great way to maximise my time. To fit it all in.

Do you get free samples. lol

Yeah I spose, things like writing essays, referencing etc and then preparing for exams are things I haven't done for so long, it seems daunting again.

Are you doing all of yours online?

yep, I am. Most unis have all the referencing guides, and how to write crap stuff as well.
its all pretty easy really.

What are you looking at studying?

Took a couple of weeks to get into the groove of studying again, especially around work as well, but once I got into it it was fine. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do your assignments.

Tasted about 200 wines that week. Most of it was wine faults and problems though so wasnt too enjoyable. Mouth was pretty wrecked by the acid by the end of the week.

I don a study planner. Find out what is due when. The I make sure its submitted at least 2 weeks earlier. Depending on the level of assignments etc, I try to complete all work by mid semester. That way, if things go pear shaped in your home or work life, you have the extra time to complete your work.

its worked a treat for me. A few years ago, I had everything done in week 3 for one subject.
This semester, I am looking at completing a Pharmacology subject by week 6. A lot of work, but it frees up my time for the harder subject I am doing.

Also, learn some de stressing stuff. Don't let things worry you. If you are struggling, put in for extensions. email is your friend as an external student.

ANd how does it work, do you basically read texts and stuff online, then do your research, submit assignments and sit exams?

Each subject is different.
I amdoing a master in Nursing, so its all health type stuff.

This semester I am doing 2 subjects.
one is harder than the other.

Both come with an online study guide, weekly lectures by video.
weekly lecture notes, weekly add ons.
One has 2 assignments, of 3000 words, plus weekly online forum submission stuff, on pharmacology stuff. So thats easy to do, and organise.

The other has the same plus online exams by 2. This is an Indigenous Mental health subject, so is hard hard hard.
