Wwhat I am p#ssed off about is

The Hawks do not have 21 out of their best 22 injured, Mitchell, Dew, Guerra, Roughead, Rioli, Sewell, Williams, and others are all fit to play.

Why has the AFL allowed Box Hill players to play in from on fit listed players

I agree with Jars, it IS a disgrace.

Hawthorn do have a very long injury list. They may not even be able to field 26 fit AFL listed players. If that's the case, then fair enough, make up the difference with Box Hill players.

What I object to is them being allowed to "rest" uninjured AFL listed players, their positions taken by VFL listed players. They should be forced to select all uninjured AFL listed players first, then and only then should they be permitted to make up any shortfalls with Box Hill players.
Yeah that's it.

I have no problem with them selecting VFL players to cover the injured, but why are most of their top 30 getting the rest?

It defeats the purpose of the NAB challenge of showcasing top level footy and providing competetive hit outs between teams.

I propose theCrows to pop over the boarder and play me and my mates as we'll give you a run. Or just select us to go play Box Hill for you and give the lads some run arounds in the SANFL this week as they'll be half competetive.

So you'd prefer Hawthorn to forefit?

If we were in their situation and playing Donnelly and Henderson Hawthron would probably be greatful if we could call up some blokes like Massie etc from the SANFL

Do you honestly believe all the palyers they are not playing are injured?

How very naive of you.

Vader CG and Wall.E explained it well.

My beef is with the AFL and the Hawks more than thr AFC who are just being nice guys...............again.

My guess is that the AFC & AFL got rolled. They probably received a phone call which went something like this... "Hi, Neil, Alastair Clarkson here. We're really struggling with our injury list at the moment and may not be able to field a full team on Saturday. Any chance you'd agree to us using a few Box Hill players to make up the difference?". "Sure Al, no problem."

I'd imagine there was quite a bit of surprise at both the AFL & AFC when Hawthorn lodged the team list and they discovered the extent to which the Hawks had decided to take advantage of Adelaide's good will.

You're spot on there Vader.

The Hawks would have said we might have to call on the VFL squad to make up some numbers this week, the AFC and AFC probably said, "all goo" knowing they had some injuries. They get permission with no parameters on how many can be called up/

Teams are announced and the AFL and AFC say

"WHAT THE ****!"

Call the Hawks, "what's up with that, you don't have that many injuries"

Hawks "relax, we have 40,000 members and plenty of fans in bay 13"

I was more annoyed at this when I thought Hawthorn were going to take a squad of 26.

Apparently they're only going to take a squad of 22 or 23 though, so at least the Box Hill players will mostly, if not entirely, be left out of the squad. I don't mind playing a bunch of rookies if they're at least on Hawthorn's list. It becomes a farce otherwise.

That said, I hope the Crows do rest their senior players, or at least more of them than they were originally intending to, and let our rookies run the show.

Stars Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards will be rested, while Scott Thompson, Scott Stevens and Michael Doughty will miss with minor sore spots.

Midfielder David Mackay has been struck down by a bout of gastro and versatile big man Brad Moran has also been cut from the 23-man-team.

Patrick Dangerfield, Kurt Tippett, Richard Douglas, Chris Schmidt and Tony Armstrong have all been named to play their first games of the pre-season

I notice Clarkson isn't even going to be bothered showing up. Probably holding a training session with his real team.

Geez, this game is going to be quite pathetic if their coach can't even be bothered to show up. I was going to take the 2 and a half hour drive, but now I'm not going to - I'll wait until next Friday to see our real team play another real team, I just feel sorry for the people in the Riverland who rarely get to see an AFL game and they've just been given Hawthorn's C-side and pretty much our B-side.

Hawthorn should be changed with bring the game into disrepute; this has turned into a farce.

I wonder if this was a regular season game, how many primary listed players would play. The Hawthorne football club should make a $25,000 donation to the Berri football club. I hope Berri or the Riverland football association don’t lose money over this disgraceful effort by Hawthorn

Just as an update:

Injured (wouldn't play if rd.1 was today):
Bailey (knee), Birchall (hamstring), Boyle (back), Croad (foot), Ellis (forget), Gilham (knee), Hodge (shoulder), Franklin (finger), Ladson (knee/hamstring), Lewis (forget), Lisle (unknown), Murphy (shoulder), Muston (knee), Osborne (hamstring/knee), Savage (unknown)

Niggle (might play):
Bateman (ankle), Campbell (wrist/hip), Dew (hamstring), Schoenmakers (corked thigh/hip),

Rested (would play):
Brown, Dowler, Guerra, Kennedy, Lowden, McGlynn, Mitchell, Morton, Renouf, Rioli, Roughead, Sewell, Shiel, Taylor, Thorp, Tuck, Whitecross, Williams, Young.

(Bold regular senior players).

So from that my reading is there are 8-9 senior players who could be playing that aren't.

We had a similar issue with the injury list last year (15+ players), though by the time pre-season started it was down to the normal 6-8. Perhaps with the GF we've had everything pushed back 3-4 weeks as there's still 13 or so players genuinely unavailable.

Luke Breust, Ed Curnow, Beau Dowler, Sam Gibson, Sam Iles, Haydn Kiel, Steve Kenna, Josh Kennedy, Luke Lowden, Lukas Markovic, Ben McGlynn, Lachlan McQueen-Miscamble, Riley Milne, Jarryd Morton, Garry Moss, Brent Renouf, Will Sierakowski, Liam Shiels, Ryan Schoenmakers, Ben Smithwick, Cameron Stokes, Matthew Suckling, Simon Taylor, Travis Tuck, Mitchell Thorp, Brendan Whitecross

M&M and Markovic are both tall defenders (something we have nothing left of). The rest are small(ish) midfielder/utilities from what little I've seen. Given we've named 26, I think we should take our 19, the two M's and probably Kenna.

Disappointing, but given the way our own injury list is looking at the moment, i'm glad its an op to give our older boys a week off. This pre-season is the best I can think of for our club trialling some of our younger players. This year of all years we should be embracing the opportunity to expose these guys to the action and our game plan, regardless of the opposition. So suck it up people, it ain't the end of the world...:p

Seriously though, this is a good way to get our youngsters exposed without having them get smashed. Think of it as a glorified SANFL match where we can field an entire Crows side. I think it will be beneficial to the side. Certainly much more so than just wiping them off the face of the planet.

I hear Mackay isn't playing, or was it McLeod? Disappointing if it's Mackay, I love him but he's still got something to prove to make sure he remains in the best 22 after being dropped for periods last year. Does he have a niggle?

Both. McLeod due to resting him because he's old.
MacKay due to some virus. I think it was Gastro or something. Im unsure.

Yep, it's gastro. The same as Danger last week....hopefully it stops at those two and doesn't go through the team!

agree. think is the likely to be very close to what happened.

see I love this. its a classic case of FU! i wish we had that swagger, and it wasn't our goodwill being abused. damn it, I want to be the one doing whatever suits us!

Freak. even the stay puff marshmallow man can't retain his spot the 23 man squad?

Neil, that's cold. I have images of Craigy getting the hump after seeing hawthorns team, commanding JR to "release the hounds" and moran froze in the headlights of Neil's cold vengence.

but that might be just me. :p

This is such an awesome mental image :p

Out of interest, who's captain for this game if Rutten, Van Berlo, Edwards, Goodwin, Mcleod, Doughty and Stevens are all out?

Bock or Shirley perhaps?
The leadership group was going to decide. I beleive itas going to be Bock. But im not 100% sure.

Im only 4.5% sure
