Not sure about these calls that we were lucky it wasn’t paid advantage to Larkey. He was chasing a loose ball - he didn’t have possession. The umpire waited to see what happened and then called it back, but that’s what they usually do in those situations. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t dumb by Larkey though, assuming he did hear the whistle.
Yes, more comentators not knowing the rules. Hopefully this gets talked about on 360 with Razor Ray and he confirms that unless it's a clean possession to the infringed team, there's no possible advantage.

I've long believed Quartermain doesn't like us, and this video did nothing to change my mind.
I was listening to SEN at the time and he actually tipped us to win. His words were "North will win in the last 60 seconds"!

The actual rule is "showing an intent to continue play" - There's nothing in the rules as written about having to have possession to do that.

Now the logical thing would be to say, well they were fighting over a loose ball so you can't possibly call advantage. But when has the AFL ever been logical?
But to the exact wording of the rules of the game - it should have been play on. And that makes it even funnier given the Suns were fellated by the umpires for the 123 preceding minutes.

I’ve watched the final 10 minutes four times and I still have no idea how we managed to win. 😵‍💫
Watching the replay, that last centre clearance with 46 sec to go, it ends up inside their 50 with 33 sec left. I was nervous as hell and then had to remind myself we end up winning and I had nothing to be nervous about. That's what this team does to you. I have no idea how we won that but I am so glad we did.

How are you dealing with vossy’s departure mate?

Throwing your hat in the ring?

I’ve see quite a few “Controversial Free Seals North Victory” type headlines today. Very few “Controversial Gold Coast Frees All Bloody Game Yet North Still Won!” headlines.
Nah I’ve scoured content all morning - haven’t seen anyone call that obvious free to zurhaar ‘controversial’ - but I stay away from non north forums.

The extended version of the last qtr MMM call:

Isaac Smith is quality over quantity with his special comments!

Hook this into my veins.

Don't get much Ash Chua content given I'm not in Victoria. But that elation and relief and speechlessness was like looking in a mirror of me yesterday... with less swear words.

This is where parallel universes apparently come in. Watching the replay knowing we won but something just reminds us and makes us feel that we can still stuff it up.

It's my understanding from both the application of the rules and what I've had explained, is you can't continue play without having possession. The rule also states "reasonable time", which is obviously variable but usually only a couple of seconds.

So:
  • a player is infringed, and the ball hits the deck, and your team collect it, you can play on.
  • a player is infringed, and the ball hits the deck, and your team and the opposition team are contesting a loose ball, you cannot play on

"intent to continue play" implies knowledge of another possibility, and a decision being made between those two options. If they don't know the whistle has been blown, there's no intent since they're not choosing the continuation of play over the other option (the player going back and taking the kick). Right decision.

LOL, I was watching the last 2 minutes before and my wife says to me “why are you so nervous, you know they win?” 😂

Still the best part was George at the end jumping around like the family dog who just wants to be involved with the humans being excited around him.
