Barring injury is a very pertinent point. Has he ever played a full season?
The last couple of seasons he has been fine (pretty much since the knee), only out of the side due to having an AA full back and his understudy playing well and injury free.

Brown has been groomed to come straight in for Glass when he retires.

Cripps + Goddard compo <-> Brown + 2nd rounder?

Not sure we'd have a need for Farren Ray either.
I don't like it - but then again I'm not the person you have to convince! I can see our clubs in a stalemate about this to be honest, and it all falling through. We shall see though.

Btw I just threw Farren Ray in as an example of what kind of player/pick we would be willing to trade, I doubt you want/need him either. And FWIW, I damn well hope we keep him.

We'll pick up players to help offset the loss of Lynch, Swift, Stevens and Brown. Whether they are just as good as if not better than who they replace - that's another story.
Our recruiters and list managers are asleep or dumb. Have been for years.

I may be supprised at the end of trade period but history isnt on our side.

Isn't it obvious Sainst have targeted Brown to fill a gap, just as MFC have targeted Collingwood players their coach regards well. Swans were in Adl Monday after the GF to meet Tippett.

we need to be proactive not spectators.

i hope this is a lesson to our match commitee who play players who are decent but wont improve. whats happening this trade period is a direct result of the conservative nature of our match commitee. dont expect lycett, shepherd and the like to stay to be backups.

This is disappointing news. It seems like the longevity of our younger and better players is really hurting our depth now since the fringe players feel like they're not being offered any opportunities. Seems like everyone wants to be a major player for their team these days.

cant please everyone,
but the match committee's stubborness surely has to come into play

Brown is a contracted player. Therefore if the Saints really do want him, they'll have to part with more than they would've if he was uncontracted.
Yep, West Coast are the ones with the leverage not the Saints, so if the Saints want a 'required' Eagles player then they need to put up something good

Brown , I know his knee is sound and he is super strong but playing at Etihad every second week wont help Brown . Should stay at WCE , is this rumour or fact the trade to the Saints ?

Really disappointed to lose Brown. He's been our next CHB since we delisted Wilkes and Spangher. Expecting Glass, Mackenzie and Schofield all to play full seasons is very optimistic. He'll leave a big hole in our list.

I don't want to see a mature recruit CHB. If we were recruiting a player to come into the best 22, I would feel differently, but injuries provide opportunities for young players already on the list and quite often they surprise.

If we are grooming McInnes to play forward, does that mean we'll use McGovern as our CHB in the event of injury? I'm not opposed to it. I think he could be a good fit. He likes physical contact, goes in hard and seems like the type of player that could play to instruction.

I don't see the point of mocking the match committee in 2012.

Who would you have dropped to play Stevens and Swift?

Who would you have dropped to play Brown?

Who would you have dropped to play Lycett?

We're pushing for a flag, there's little need to develop our kids just for the sake of it, at the expense of the tried and tested first 22 players.

Agree. We should have rested Glass and Kerr more often IMO especially against the minnows. Shame it's come to this.

Brown leaving gives us the opportunity to get a high draft to grab a decent midfielder.

Brown + Stevens for 12 + Cripps?

17 for Wellingham?

3rd rounder for Pears?
