I'd kick the tires on Surjan. Get him in for a physical and see where his head is at. If he checks out and still has a burning desire to play AFL i'd offer him a 1yr contract. Isn't he Jako's cousin or something?

Do we need him though? Sounds like Cripps Mk 2, just getting someone for the sake of it.

If we get Cripps we probably don't need him, that's true. But if we are trying to win a premiership now, and it looks like we are, then he would be nice depth and a better bet than pick 70.

I remember back to 2006 when we lost jones Braun maters and a few others carrying injuries on the day. Then I remember hawthorn beating Geelong with Stuart dew playing a key role and even Morton this year. My point is guys like durian and rodan would beof more benefit than someone like strijk on the day so I agree with getting them on the cheap for a year or two if it helps win a premiership.

Big difference between an up and coming kid who wants to return home and a guy that's been delisted at the he of 28 because of injury and form.
Yeah I get that, but still no one has actually clarified for me if there is a need for Cripps? Do we want him because he wants to come home or do we want him because we need him?

This would be a very good post if it had any inclination or application to what was being discussed.
No it's pretty obvious that it was directed at your and your desire to clog our list with backup players when we should be trying to find talent to sustain success over an extended period.

Trading for guys that are going to be playing in four years time isn't such a bad thing. Drafting in a 28 year old lock down (very) small defender just in case of injury isn't smart list management.

But it's not an issue because it won't happen.

Not a huge need.

Can't you want him at the club because he's got some talent and is young? It's not as if he's incapable of forcing his way into our side either.

If that's the case yes. AFAIK it's just a yong bloke wanting to go home. If he's worth getting, get him.

Let's see. Trade in players that are questionable for 2 years and maybe win a premiership.

Big risk. Very improbable it would work given that they wouldn't get much game time on our list. The players Sydney has recruited under this type of scenario were given game time due to the fact Sydney were in transition.

Then compare it with the future in 2 years. Possible retirements: Glass, Embley, Cox, Kerr. Add to that those "depth" players you traded in and we are left with a List that lacks a few younger players coming through that we could have blooded in the next 2 years.

Add to that I think our list is good enough to win a premiership without them. Why bother and risk the short term future.

Too many paint ads for you...

Don't know why you'd trade for Garlett either, or how it would possibly need to be a three way
Should be a McKinleyesque trade if anything ie for a meaningless pick.

Question is -is he better midfield depth than Dalziell?

If so then why not get him in and delist Dalziell?

Sydney are very different to us in that in order to stay strong in a largely NRL dominated city they must be thereabouts consistently.
We don't have the same issue and don't have to keep afloat, thus we can afford to develop kids.

In that's your insistence, then your post holds absolutely no merit and makes no sense given the tone of the conversation nor the application of rationale.
