From personal experience the issue might be aligning the scar tissue that builds up after such an injury so that it doesn't effect the range of movement in the muscle. This is a slow process that requires regular massage but for most it will be effective.
I'm not sure how badly he broke his leg, but that would explain the reports that his running gait has been altered. It could also be an issue of muscle wastage (loss) that occurs when the leg is inoperative, and solving that is just an issue of doing leg weights and running. I think I saw somewhere on the D+T board that he had been asked about his leg and he said it was feeling fine, which would point to wastage rather than scar tissue, so it might just be that he needs to work on getting strength back into his quads and calf.
If he's back playing footy I doubt he has any persistent nerve damage and he's obviously avoided compartment syndrome, so I doubt there would be any truly long term complications.
I was eating ice cream reading your response and remembered your photo, I was unwell, shall we say and now need a new ice-cream.:(
I was thinking more along the lines of the mental issues that you need to overcome beatle, to truly get back to the level prior to the injury. What are your thoughts about that?

My bad :(
The mental effect of it is obviously going to vary from person to person more than the physical effect.
I'm not sure on the exact circumstances in which he broke his leg, but it wouldn't be unusual for a player to be meek or hesitate were similar circumstances to arise again. Personally whenever I see a collision on tv that resembled what happened to me I cringe, have flashbacks and expect the worst, but then again mine didn't happen so long ago.
People who watch him at Bendigo consistently would probably know if he is more meek or hesitant since his injury, hearing footsteps more etc. Perhaps RE or EH would have more of an idea about his circumstances?

Has anyone seen his leg break? If you don't want to, don't google images his name. Just about had me gagging.

FWIW though if we absolutely had to give up Brown, I'd be very please if we ended up with Stringer.

Pretty strange way to break your leg. It wasn't as if someone slid in and took him out, so if he's up playing and kicking the ball I imagine mentally he's pretty okay.
Funnily enough his x-rays and fixation setup are almost identical to mine.

Dont understand why we keep Brown if he clearly wants to go... He isnt gonna play his best footy here.
hopefully holing out for the best deal possible. If he keeps saying he wants out would be a monumentous mistake to keep him regardless of depth

How about some sort of deal with North Melbourne that nets us Cam Pederson, he has the size to be moulded into a quality kpd, maybe Mitch Brown and a pick in the 30's. Hopefully we can get a pick in the 20's for Koby to use in this draft.

He's older than Brown and hasn't played as many games. I'd be hesitant even with a straight swap tbh.

Ryan O'Keefe? A much better player I know, but circumstances change, he could get a lot more game time net year.
i understand that, and if we keep him all well and good.but if in their meetings he is adamant he wants to go home and will leave at the end if next season it would be crazy to keep him out of spite. If he was a west aussie then maybe but the lure of going home would be as strong as regular game time

Not that there are too many options for us in the FA pool at the moment.

But I do wonder whether the natural hesitancy to recruit someone who is 28 is now overstated, particularly given the readily available talent pool that becomes available each year that can be accessed without drafting cost.

Take for example Jacob Surjan (not that I am advocating recruiting him). He is 28 and has possibly 2 or 3 years left. Put him on a 2 year contract and at the end of 2014 his body is shot but he has given us 2 years of good service. He is simply delisted and then you go to the well again and recruit somebody again for 2/3 years.

Given that nothing has to be given up for the player, other than a spot on the list - the relative output would only need to be compared against what we might have recruited from say pick 50 onwards.

I'd assume that the average result from a player after pick 50 wouldn't be more than 40 games. As such, committing to a 28 year old for 2 years is hardly a massive risk, nor poor list management, particularly when in a position to compete for a flag.

A lot of it is just posturing from Pickering to get a deal done.

Mitch was more then happy to stay at the club until an offer too good to refuse was offered. If he plays more next year or gets promised more game time in 2014, I'd say its pretty likely he'd stay.

completely agree, it has been a huge storm in a teacup with some of the emotional stuff posted by saints supporters.

He was in the 22 until injured (against richmond??)

If he gets a run is a successful side and he will be a very happy man.

I am also confident (no sure why) that the club is treating him respectfully through this process.
