I hate that example Falcon as I would hate to Surjan at our club mate
Then you completely misread the point of the post.

I'm not advocating recruiting Surjan at all. We have no need for him, because we have plenty of depth in small defenders.

What i was stating, was that a mid-range footballer at age 28 shouldn't be summarily dismissed simply because of their age, because even 2 to 3 years of service can be sufficient. It's not as though a hole is necessarily created in the best 22 due to their selection as they can be readily replaced when their time is done.

So rather than having 1 fringe/bottom 22 player over 10 years (think Rowan Jones), you could have 3 or 4 players perform the same role.

We would have more need for Rodan that for Surjan.

Rodan is a really good sub option, would seriously cut up against players who are tiring late in the game.
Rodan is the prototypical sub. The AFL could develop it as a specialist position, but that would require creative thinking, something the AFL is not renowned for.

completely agree, it has been a huge storm in a teacup with some of the emotional stuff posted by saints supporters.

He was in the 22 until injured (against richmond??)

If he gets a run is a successful side and he will be a very happy man.

I am also confident (no sure why) that the club is treating him respectfully through this process.

He was always behind Emac and only gets games when players are injured/suspended. He's not in our best 22 and wont be until Glass is gone.

Rodan's been delisted by Richmond and Port for good reason. He's got a great back of tricks, however is too inconsistent and his disposal is average, so he won't add any value to us IMO.

I'm up for adding Rodan. The 2 Fijians - Rodan and Nik Nat / Rodan would have a field day roving to big Nik Nat - I'd like to see that! Nik Nat - Rodan - Lecras :thumbsu:

I have some questions

1) who makes way for rodan or surjan if some are so hell bent on getting them.

2) where do we see as area's / positional players that we need to improve to make top four and preimership.

My view rodan/surjan no thanks.I think we are one good mid away but i don't see rodan as a fix .wellingham coming in might see a gaff go in the guts specially after another preseason might be whats required.Nic nat has x factor yes but another smaller (Cyril Rioli) type with explosive speed foward/ mid is the last piece to the puzzle.

swap rodan for mcginnity plz
ok swap a defensive tagger for a attacking guy that doesn't run the other way ok good choice.
I have found Mcginity as a role player who does just that. His kicking and decision making needs work. but 2 seasons back we where the worst kicking team in the comp ,now one of the best so if they came fix his kicking it will make his decision making look a hell of a lot better.

Are you guys seriously saying that we should pick up Rodan? Wasn't it the general consensus on this board that our selectors are too conservative and the hesitation to cut players like Adam Selwood instead of getting games into youth is damaging our team? Now you want a washed up hack that has been cut from two of the worst teams in recent history.

I'm so glad the people toying with this grand idea are not part of our recruitment team. Thank god.

Maybe Lewis Jetta Brad Sheppard can fill this role?
Man, if we had Jetta we would be complete. Either instead of Sheppard or the year before on the rookie list.

I agree. McGinnity is important for team structure. He's like rojo was to our 05/06 team. Very under-appreciated due to his average disposal skills, lack of height and average pace. However, he shuts down an opponent, blocks, runs the other way, and provides the link up option. His value to the team is not just in what he produces, but what his opponents don't.

People get seduced by his fancy footwork. Can't totally blame them as he is exciting to watch when he is up and going.

mcginnity is an honest-to-god trier who i've grown to love. brings toughness, pressures hard and has bagged the occasional goal but geez, my heart's often in my throat when he's involved. he doesn't quite look like a top-22 player in a premiership team to me and he probably needs to add a little bit of polish or be replaced but someone with a bit more.

if we could make a specialist sub out of someone with some attacking flair (like rodan, or dick?) than i would think they would easily displace a mcginnity, hams, a.selwood(?) from the team.

I don't like the idea of a specialist sub. There are many problems with the theory.

It must be his body. Because Surjan is a good player.

Or it could be the incompetence of Rohde.

And the idea that good players don't get delisted is fallible. I'm sure we could trawl through some examples of players who have come back better after being cut. Tom Lee, for example.

Very few who have been cut at 27+ though, most have been young
