Definitely enough to worry me Swannies.

We are fighting to keep our first pick from 2006. From the 07 draft only Masten and Scooter are still with us. From 08 we have lost Swift and Jones and have been lucky to retain Smith. From 09 Stevens has left and Weedon looks unlikely to make it.

We seem to get it very right or very wrong.
From 2006 our second pick and our fourth pick are in our first-choice defensive unit. From 2007 Scooter won our B&F and Masten is close to the most improved player in the league. From 2008 Naitanui was All Australian starting ruckman and Shuey is a vital midfield cog. From 2009 Sheppard was looking good before breaking his ankle. We smashed the 2010 draft with Gaff and Darling.

No team will ever bat 100%. There's some wasted top 25 picks in there but overall we're traveling OK.

Like I said, very right or very wrong.

We burn a lot of picks though, far more than we should.

Do we burn more than anyone else though?

Look at Sydney, since everyone currently wants to be like them. Their top-26 picks over the same period have included Daniel O'Keefe, Patrick Veszpremi, Brett Meredith, Lewis Johnston and Jed Lamb, none of whom played any part in their premiership.

We overlooked Marley Williams also , so two WA state junior midfielders we overlooked for Mascoulis and Papertalk . All respect to Mascoulis and Papertalk but Wiliams and Nelson were WA state juniors in 2011 and we passed them up for hopefully that outside pace we lack . I can see why we did go this path but it FAILED !

I love the fact that we recruited Shuey twice.

I've said it once and I'll say it again; don't get too upset about failed rookie picks. If you are relying on rookies to boost yourself up into the upper echelon then you're not that good to begin with.

Historically, clubs like Freo who might have tried to manipulate the rookie draft a bit more than others haven't necessarily had that much success. You need the higher picks playing consistently to do well, not rookie picks.

Of course, they are good for depth. That's what they should be; not your star players.

GWS have said all picks bar #1 are on the trade table. For some offseason hypothetical fun, and ignoring the 'wouldnt be traded, club stalwart, etc' reasons why someone might be unlikely to go... who on our list would you let go for, say picks 2 and 3 put together?

Eddie Mcgurie is a dick head, his surname doesnt even deserve to be spelled right, its because of him they got pick 17 and melbourne offered pick 20 for dawes and he says that wont be enough, bloody idiot he drives me nuts and the demons will be stupid enough to give a higher pick, this guy could barley mark a ball nor kick a goal and he got replaces by a 30 year old lynch, but when collingwood get players like ball and jolly they gave up jack shit, if scott pendlebury wanted to come to the eagles we need to give them all our draft picks, also we need to build a dentist centre at Lexus centre so their supporters can get free check ups, we would also need to give them nic nat, andrew gaff, tom swift, and maybe that would just be enough

It was Geoff Walsh that said pick 20 wouldn't be enough. And not sure what Eddie had to do with the Wellingham negotiations.

But I hope you feel better after that rant.

A lot of this made no sense but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Especially the part about not spelling his surname right, that hasn't bothered you in the past! ;)

Damn, I got in a 'locked and loaded' but I got cut off

Vozzo on now.

Bulldogs, Essendon and St Kilda interested in Stevens. No clear frontrunner. Would like a pick in the 30s.

Mitch Brown will definitively be at West Coast next year. Under no circumstances will he be traded. Have identified opportunities for him here, more competition than at the Saints.

No update on Cripps. Progressing slower than hoped. Saints after Brown. Told them numerous times they can't have him.

WCE not loooking for any other trades/FA pickups apart from the Koby Stevens and Cripps deals, a bit bland from WCE as per usual
