We won't get pick 11 for Brown but Bontempelli will still be in the mix for our first round pick. He should do well at draft camp and he could probably take over Gaff's old position on the wing from day one.
Yeah if Sheed was taken I wouldn't mind getting Botempelli. I think regardless of what happens we will should be able to pick up a quality player with this pick... Sheed, Dunstan, Lennon and Botempelli are players I think we could get with our first draft pick and would be good pick ups.

I don't think we could get GWS's pick 11, was just speculating.
What if we give them brown and hams

Anyone else want to chase Lachie Neale from the Dockers?

He's another midget but he has a good sized frame like Daniel Kerr. He's be a good Kerr replacement IMO - similar style of play.

He's not really any smaller than Kerr. It also doesn't mean we can't draft other tall midfielders to compliment the smalls.
Kerr is too small these days as ziad mentioned. 185-195 with some size is what we need as well as some small pacey types, from memory I don't think Neale is particularly quick? Smaller version of Shuey I'd say.

Not really. Why would O'Meara leave the GC to join his friend at WC, when his friend isn't even guaranteed a new contract?

in todays game Kerr lacks mass in close.

I don't think that's fair. There are plenty of good sub 180cm players who run through the middle...
- Jack Viney
- Cyril Rioli
- Dion Prestia (who is 1cm shorter and same weight - similar playing style)
- Sam Mitchell
- Kieren Jack
- Sam Dwyer
- Luke Dahlhaus
- Allen Christensen

Neale's ratio of height to weight also allows extra power. He isn't a slight framed small player like Masten. He's got a solid frame.

Dismissing a player based purely on height is garbage, even if we do have an over abundance.

I'm not saying we get him at the expense of bigger players. I'm suggesting we get him in addition to bigger players.

Another problem with Neale is that he's a bit of a tweener in terms of position.

From what I know his best spot is as an inside mid but he probably doesn't have the ability to do much good there at AFL level. That's probably size related.

On the other hand, he can't play many other positions. I know Fremantle have moved him to the forward line in the past (and probably still do) but then his game isn't ideal for that.

It's a bit like Kobe Stevens. Not good enough to be one of your main ball winners, not versatile enough to contribute while he waits to pinch hit.

EDIT: Having said that, I haven't watched him in ages and I know underdog watches a lot of Swans Districts footy.

No, I'm just saying we have enough of his type, why on earth would we want another?

Because he's a good footballer. Additionally, it wouldn't be adding to the number of smalls medium/long term as he'd be recruited as a Kerr replacement.

Again, I am discussing this in addition to big guys, not instead of.

I doubt this would occur regardless, I just think he'd be a good fit. Not many players going around who'd be relatively cheap with his inside attributes IMO.

Can't really see Neale adding much to our midfield. Generating clearances isn't our weakness, it's converting them into F50 entries.

If Sheppard comes on we'll have what we need - a tall, inside clearance mid with speed and footskills. Not to mention more of Wellingham.

Generating quality clearances is...

At his best, Kerr was able to muscle his way through congestion and release a player on the outside. We don't have anyone who does this effectively and/or consistently which leads to a lot of "bang it on the boot".

This is why the perception exists that we need big guys. I'd suggest we don't need big guys as much as players who are solid with a strong core. You could draft or trade in 3 x 191cm Matt Rosa's and it's not going to help solve our issues in the slightest.

Big guys does not mean height (that is 'tall'), big means big bodied.
