Big guys does not mean height (that is 'tall'), big means big bodied.
Isn't that why I'm suggesting Neale? He's short but he has a solid frame and core.

He isn't a slight player like Masten. He's 4 kgs heavier and 3 cms shorter. At 4 years younger, he's already a much more solid-bodied player.

I'm not opposed to recruiting taller, big-bodied players. In fact, I encourage it. Where do we get them from?

Recruiting someone like Neale doesn't mean we don't draft taller, big bodied players.

Moved on from Neale, I'm talking about guys like Mundy, Fyfe (for example), we don't have that. Sheppard is a good height but is puny. We need a couple of those types of mobile bigger bodied guys that don't get blown away when contesting a footy and can take contested grabs in the midfield. But with regard to Neale, I agree with a previous poster that he's too small for AFL in the role he plays.

Wasn't the knock on Fyfe before the draft that he was too skinny?

Sad that we then went and chose Shep ahead of him.:(

Yeah that's it, he was quite skinny but most are at that age (unless your name is Tom Boyd or Oliver Wines!). Thing is, they put some bulk on him which has had a positive effect in the modern game.

Since GWS made the number 1 pick in the draft attainable I think its possibly time to pull the pin and try and nab it like we did so well at in the 90's. Having two top 10 picks can really catapult us to the pointy end of the ladder for the future.

To do that we are going to have give up a player like Emac, Nic Nat, and Darling. They want key position players and i can see them wanting a defender like EMAC in the backline and Ruckman like Nic Nat and forward like Darling to compliment their forward line of Cameron, Patton and possibly Buddy.

Seems like you're all agreeing. The greatest player in the game today is under six foot, height is but one factor and it can be detrimental at times.

If we want taller midfielders we should look in our own back yard this year, followed by South Australia. Dunstan, Cripps, Acres, Robertson, Jansen, Dumont and perhaps Marsh or more.

I think you're over-valuing draft picks (much like Carlton did in the Judd trade). Pick #1 is still a speculation, and you'll generally get someone useful but arguably only Goddard, Riewoldt and Murphy have been long term top tier players.

That said, I'd consider moving Darling for #1. I don't think that is GWS's intention though. I think they want to do a pick downgrade and grab an experienced asset. Realistically I don't think we have anyone to fit the bill other than Brown, and him plus #9 probably won't get it done.

Damian Barrett just claimed on the footy show the we have made a "sizable" offer to Rhys Conca. He went on to say that apparently he doesn't want to leave the tigers but that the offer is so substantial that he is having to consider it.

Good to see the club being aggressive during the year......if it's true.

Hmm, last year we barely had money for Wellingham, now we have money to chase Conca with big dollars and re-sign LeCras to a generous contract.

I think we'll see a few retirements at the end of this year... No shock, I guess.

On Conca, I'd be all for it. :thumbsu:

What draft pick would you put up, he was no 6 , his performance has only served to underline that selection

West Coast making a big play for Reece Conca - just heard of TFS.

I like him, so would be happy to get him across, high pick.
As long as it doesn't cost our 1st round pick then fine. If we end up with pick 8 or 9 I want to use it in the draft on the best mid we can.

If we can pick up a Sheed plus Conca and, dare I suggest Garlett with a 3rd rounder, that's a big step towards addressing our midfield deficiencies.

I rate Conca but not sure we should give up our top 10 pick for him (which of course we would have to).

I dislike placing too much emphasis on draft picks but I don't think Conca really adds much to our midfield.

Really? Another half back, this one with dodgy disposal...

He's better than a lot of our HB's, maybe it's just that he always plays well against us - especially on lecca.

But I enjoy watching run from def, he is impossible to tackle and gets a lot of touches, and I find he generally uses it well.

Does the lock down stuff, as well as attacking from the back.
