Well that depends, does it not? If they are unrestricted, they have little choice in the matter?
Well in this case Dal Santo has a trigger in his contract which St Kilda can relinquish if they believe they can manipulate the current compo system in their advantage.

The problem with this setup is that in certain situations teams will come off bandits when a player decides to leave, which would be fine if it didn't impact the other 17 (or 16 I guess) teams.

Example:
Team A has pick 5, Team B has pick 6 and Team C has pick 7.
Team A loses Player to Team F, Gets Rnd 1 compo.
Team A has pick 5 and 6. Picks John and Bob.
Team B now has pick pick 7 and picks Jerry, but is hugely disappointing because they really wanted Bob. But they didn't get Bob, because a player who had nothing at all to do with their club left with free agency and as a result compromised the entire draft.

It's a rotten system. How can a player movement between two clubs have an effect on the other 16 teams. That's not right.

Yeah I agree. Was more referring to a club dictating what they will receive. In the case of a 'trigger' I'm not sure what prevails, surely the AFL free agency rules would?

Compo should be something like a tradeable pick or 2 year salary cap increase based on value of player.

Reading up on Billings they say his weakness is that he might never be a full time mid..i tweeted samlandsbeger asking where he thought Sheed would go and said 5-10. Jack Billings does sound exciting but he sounds more like a forward than a full time mid which is what we need.

Ignoring the dal Santo stuff, article says north have committed pick 8 to mcdonald. Written by jay clark though.......
There's just no way they don't take him at pick 8 if bid before. There's a 2,000+ post thread on the Norf board titled Luke McDonald Future FS and Hall of Famer. The club have already incorporated him into their system, there's just too much riding on him not to pick him up. Even if they have him rated as the 10th best prospect it's much safer getting him at 8 then not.

Due diligence to make sure they are getting the best at that pick. They will take him at 8 but will obviously try for later.

Surely wce have to bid on him? Result:
1. We get him - IMO better than Sheed or Billings for what we need OR
2. We make sure Norf don't steal another gun (as well as him) before our 2nd pick

Several teams should be bidding on him. North won't let him slip away. He trains once a week with the team as it is.

I wonder if having kids train with your club puts them in a much better light than there actual talent allows so that they look like future stars against kids there own age who don't have the benefit of an AFL club but when in the AFL system they come back to the pack?

Would certainly push them a couple of spaces higher in the draft order at least...

To a degree if you are more physically developed you'll look better, training with an AFL club will help with this. Having said that McDonald has been playing VFL most of the season, not against kids, so they'll have a fair idea.

There's a bit of talk around that we've met with Yeo while he's in WA, despite that article where Brisbane said they were likely to re-sign him.

He should be pretty high on our hit list, IMO.

Geelong gain - Selwood + Pick 30
Geelong lose - Duncan + Pick 16

West Coast gain - Conca + Duncan + Pick 11
West Coast lose - Selwood, Pick 6 + Pick 24

Richmond gain - Pick 6, Pick 16 + Pick 24
Richmond lose - Conca + Pick 11
Trade involving more than 1 team, trade involving more than a couple of pics. Way to complicated for AFL.

Here is my attempt to order all those players being talked about for their trade value, taking into account their contract status:

4-8 Selwood
10-15 Conca
12-18 Yarran
25-35 Yeo
25-35 Rosa

This is what they may be traded for if a trade occurs, not what I think we should trade our players for, or pay for other players.

A kid with speed, pace and size (6"2)

He's just not the type of player the Eagles are interested in
