guys like sheppard, smith who have a lot of upside are the guys who could turn it around with a new coach.

Forgetting the comparison with McGinnity, it really bothers me when people declare under-performing players with athleticism and skill as automatically having more upside. Football nous does not stop at how fast you run or how well you kick the ball. There's been plenty of examples of where poorly skilled players have developed to perform at a required level and be worthwhile and plenty examples of where flaky and perhaps disinterested athletes haven't.

I'd find it very unlikely SS would go to Geelong. They'd love him there of course, but he's on track to be WCE Captain (my Captain), plus he wouldn't be able to go head-to-head with Joel like in the last WC vs Geel match. They seemed to rather enjoy that.

Yeah, that's what I reckon.
Its common for players that use time and space well to have thier leg speed called into question. Apparently Sheed has been running around the 2.9 mark at the draft camp training held at ECU and UWA the past few weeks.

I'll also throw this lad out there for debate,

Tom Shanahan from East Perth. In my, and a few others opinion, he is the stand out of the colts competition this year and the best performed inside mid. Came second in the Jack Clarke medal playing four games less than the eventual winner. I've seen around 8 - 10 games involving EP and he has impressed me greatly. He excels in his touch, his awareness, makes very quick decisions and executes well by hand and foot. Consistantly glides effortlessly through congestion and has the ball dealt with in the blink of an eye. He never takes a backwards step, never seems rushed and can run all day. Spreads, links up well and is remarkably solid overhead.

EP only won five games this year but win, lose or draw he consistantly racked up quality numbers. Stepped up to ressies towards the end of the season and played very well, cementing a spot in the best 22. No problem with the bigger bodies.

Does not have the hustle and bustle of some of the bigger bodied mids and does not enjoy having a dominant ruckmen feeding him nor quality team mates providing the block, but reads the play better and has the speed and agility to get to the contest first. Stands at around the 185 - 186 mark, needs to put a few kilos but in no way looks fully grown.

Good kick but needs to cut more grass with his inside 50 entries and needs work on his left boot. Nothing a decent skills coach could not sort out. Needs to improve his tackling as he does not nail the bigger bodies but again, time to grow and strength training will sort this out.

Solid character with leadership qualities.

He is obviously getting looked at because he has been attending the same draft camp training with Sheed and is apparently testing very well. Dont know whether its national or state screening that he is attending.

I also wonder if West Coast would look favourably on a local EP boy. It would send a positive message to the EP faithful that they are serious about developing the local kids.

Thoughts ?

I would be all for giving Shanahan a rookie list spot but it appears WCE have those earmarked for WAFL veterans

Tom Ledger delisted from the saints today. Worth a look I think, 21yo.
From all reports was pretty unlucky not to be getting games at the saints.

Tunbridge was at GWS so he doesn't count. Are any of the other players actually any good? Nope, they're all trash.

I can't work out what you're arguing. If those players are all trash then maybe we should be drafting WAFL veterans instead?

I can't work out what you're arguing. When did I say we shouldn't draft WAFL veterans?

I thought you were complaining that WCE have earmarked their rookie list spots for WAFL veterans, rather than a promising youngster like Shanahan?

Your opinion is trash...

Should rookie Powell from Claremont if he doesn't go ND.
