You shouldn't really judge Cale on that one game. He was good to very good in the last half dozen or so games. He has worked really are and with another preseason I think he will show the doubters that he is worth a spot on our list.

Fair, you've obviously seen a fair bit more than me. I hope you a right

Aww diddums, did I trash your McGovern lovechild?

McGovern was our best rookie, not really a debatable point. Not sure Tunbridge moving from GWS is any different, totally unproven kid who couldn't handle Sydney.

I like Shanahan, but he'd be a guy that actually needs to prove himself at league level before AFL clubs bite. The rookie list is a good place to take risks on players like those listed. Those with upside.

Not sure how you can say that when he didn't even play. He is untested at AFL level. But sure, he was our best rookie, whatever you say man.

What do you think rookie players do when they don't play at AFL level? Enter hibernation pods?

NAB Cup, 2012/2013.

Not too much footage there, but he has a go. Took a few decent contested marks, crashed a couple of packs and kicked a few goals.

McGovern has played in the preseason cup against other AFL squads and shown he is not out of place. Of our rookies I'd rate Sinclair then McGovern but will not be surprised at all if McGovern comes in next season and plays some very good football and makes you look silly with the negativity. IMO he could end up better than Lynch over the long term.

Can you tell me why ?

I dont necessarily disagree with this but I would of thought that afl clubs would like all kids proven at league level before drafting, hence the arguement to lift the draft age to 20, but this is not the way they work.

No point selecting a kid for screening if you want to wait and see how he goes for a year.

FWIW, the state selectors have openly admitted that Shanahan's omission from the state team was a mistake. His inclusion in the midfield of the Colts team of the year is recognition of this.
You can say the same for Wood.

This is a bit hypothetical so feel free to throw stones at me, but if Shanahan was included in the state team and played like he does every week, his normal consistant 25 - 30 touch brand of football, or even a couple of 20 touch games, everyone would be spruiking him as a late first/early second round draft pick like a few of the TAC boys.

Another young lad who deserves a mention is Dylan Main from SF. Played states, stood up when promoted to ressies and played a ripper of a GF. Looks around 188cms and 88 kgs so ready to go next year. Can play mid (outside), solid in defense and can hit the scoreboard. Only saw him play three games so I cant say a lot more other than I can see him playing AFL more so than a few others.

Anyway, WCE love the local kids and rightfully so. They need midfielders and look like having 7 - 8 picks, depending on trades of course. IMO, no point trading other clubs rejects, start a rebuild.

So this is what I think.

Wishful thinking to expect both Sheed and Acres so they have to chose one with thier first. A bit of a raffle really, there are compelling arguements for both. Marsh, if he is available or an outside speedster from the east for a second round pick at 24. Third, fourth or even fifth round picks from Cripps, Jansen, Shanahan or Main with the aim of getting two. Grab Waterman next year as a F/S, move a mountain to get Ryan Lim and we're challenging again in 2016 - 2017.

We may not necessarily need a player of his type, but has anyone got any information on Nick Rodda ? He was highly touted last year and didn't get drafted at all. How has he gone since , and would the Eagles take a chance on him (possibly as a late/rookie selection) ?

I don't know too much but from what I have seen and read he may have dropped out of the equation altogether.Might be due to his increased versatility this year as he has gone forward and kicked some goals and pinched hit in the ruck too I think.
Like I said I haven't seen too much so cant comment on his pure defensive work which I think he would be drafted as
