With Saints prepared to trade pick 1, what would you give up to get the 1st pick? And what do you want?

I'd be prepared give MGovern to get Christian Petracca
So would i but it wouldn't get it done.

Top 5 picks hold a fair bit off currency, they are not traded unless a club offers overs.

They would want McGovern our first pick and probably something else.

Not worth it.

This was discussed a few pages back.

Gov alone wouldn't do it, would need to add our first rounder as well.

Yes
What midfielders would you spend the money on now who are FA
I would wait and see and let it be known we have the salary cap room . No doubt Malceski is a good Player but I would be happier if we saved the money for a younger mid that wants to come home uncontracted or wants a trade seeing we are more likely to pushing the top four more realistically in 2-3 years

Our cap is in a pretty good place. Mal would only cost us around 400k a season on a 2yr deal. Only GC are offering him more cash and years.

For what?

Do you think we can make no other changes and just bring in Malceski and win a flag?

If not, what's the point?
The point is Malceski is an AA player who isn't super expensive and would come on a 2yr deal, he would instantly make our team better.

Whether or not it's realistic our club will be wanting to play finals and challenge for the flag next year.

GC are into hallahan, hopefully so are we.

One thing hopefully our recruiters are saying is "look how fantastic Adelaide oval is". In 3-4 years you'll be plains most weeks in front of 60000 people in a fantastic new stadium.

That has to have some currency over playing in front of 12000 on the Gold Coast

That's a long way off in terms of the average length of an AFL career. If anything it'll convince them to look elsewhere! And If that's what they want then it makes more sense to join a big 4 Vic club and play at the MCG.

That's just narrow minded thinking typically associated with supporters who get caught in a week to week basis regarding winning and losing.

Being better is not good enough. We have a gun forward line and more than competent backline - together certainly good enough to win a flag IF the midfield is among the best 4 in the league. The opportunity is now. Some people are talking rebuild but that's just bullshit. We can win the flag next year if the midfield is right.

There's no point getting Malceski if the midfield isn't right. He'd be handy if our midfield was elite. Maybe that Stenglein type player who comes in as the last jigsaw piece to get us over the line. But without a gun midfield, it's a waste.

You mention he's cheap cap wise, but what will we have to give up to get him?

Fix the midfield or bust because plodding along with Priddis and Selwood just isn't going to get our midfield to that elite level where it needs to be. If we go get Coniglio or Beams as well as Malceski then that's great. But if Malceski is our biggest signing, then it's not enough to put us in flag contention.

So it'll only work on homesick players. "you can play at HOME in front of 60,000 people"
Surely that's all Bennel & Omeara want.
Our eagles have come home.....

We don't have to give up anything besides a contract to get him.

I want him and you don't. Shock horror, two people don't agree.

Ideally, I'd rather make room in the 22 for the AA back flanker we already have. Lets hope Beau Waters can put in a ripping year or two.

Not sure we should be relying on Waters to play one season let alone two. Malceski is versatile as well, can play up on the half forward line and in the middle.

Anyone know anything about Clem Smith? saw him in under 18's and really looks like a hard at it type player.Got a decent score in the kicking test today, and Im pretty sure he did a bit of training with us a year or 2 ago. You reckon we have any chance of picking him up??

Eagles Shy away from Malceski , an offer of $ 450 000 a year for two years was offered , Malceski wants three and it is thought that malceski will probably stay at Sydney on the same money .

West Coast will wait until after the trade period to decide the fate of second-year player Adam Carter .

You gotta remember Malceski has had a massive 3 knee reconstructions. How will that hold up? Subi isn't the kindest ground. Playing HF would require more turning around. At the moment he's a whole lot fitter than Waters but we have some good ball users off half back in Hurn & Ellis so that area isn't a weakness. Would like to get him and we can assume the coaching staff would also as he can use the ball but I don't think it's a big loss at all if he signs with Gold Coast.
