I'm not disappointed that we didn't get anybody, I'm more disappointed in the fact there was virtually zero convo about us doing ANYTHING, take Varcoe out because he was never going to leave Victoria, like did anyone ever hear anything? Our list must really be that mediocre
Amongst other players linked at various stages:
Conca
Christensen
Malceski
Coniglio
Garlett
Lucas

So yeah, we only put our eggs in the Varcoe basket and did nothing else

Claremont. New England Patriots.
I don't understand why some are getting their knickers in a twist over Gellong replacing Adelaide as the pick before us.

Both ADL and GEL have a need for a KPD and a small fast forward / mid.

For me it's a total non issue who picks before us , but there again I am one of the minority that's not going to be shattered if we don't take a mid at # 11.

I would be more than comfortable taking Goddard at 11 if all of the few higher rated mids are gone . I happen to think there will still be some decent mids available for our 2nd and 3rd rounders.

Hey jaeger don't sign a new deal because we really want you to come play with us and pay you a shitload of cash

Well I like it on the Gold Coast, the weathers nice, the surf is good and I'm pretty anonymous. I also get to play with Gary ablett and there's a bunch of us the same age who get on really well together. If we stay as a group we are going to be a real contender for a flag or two. Also the Suns will be paying me a shitload too

Crickets/sprinklers
The secret to getting a big star is money money but if a team gets lucky it will be a local lad is homesick .
The money it has too be big in the millions .
See Buddy ,Ablett ,Judd and Boyd .

'Better' is totally subjective.
Oh wow, blow my mind. Some first-year arts students just called. They want their talking points back.

A better result, in my view, would have been adding to the list with a player or two who's ready to go.

Yeah would've been great to have traded in Swallow, Bennell, JOM etc but it's a fantasy.
Is it a choice between getting one of those guys and getting no one?

Are you saying there's no middle ground?

Well, don't make stupid comments about it 'all being subjective' as though that's a real argument.

Likely to be delisted so that would be overs.

Generally speaking, I'd prefer a player with more upside.
'Stupid' is also subjective. Your version of 'better' is not the same as everyone else's version of 'better', no matter how hard you whinge about it.

Bulldogs have taken a huge gamble. Not something I'd be particularly happy with if I was a supporter of their club. Losing Higgins and Cooney may really set them back (even if there is an argument that these two haven't really been present in the last couple of years).
Carlton lost Waite, Garlett, Robinson and potentially a few others. This will have significant implications on their depth and any injuries will see them exposed. They also traded out pick 7. Whether Jaksch, Whiley and pick 19 are worth it, time will tell.
Collingwood lost Beams and Lumumba and gained back Varcoe, Greenwood, Crisp and pick 5. You could possibly be happy with this but as we don't really have a midfielder of the quality of Beams it is difficult to put the loss of Beams into WC terms.
Geelong lost Christensen and Varcoe and lost out on Frawley. They did manage to gain Clark and a pick upgrade but I wouldn't be happy with their trade period in any capacity.
At BEST I could hear an argument for Collingwood having possibly maybe a bad time next year but no way Carlton or Bulldogs lost out.. So the Bulldogs drop a place or two next year, who cares? and if Carlton have to rely on the "depth" you mentioned they are all ready stuffed. Jaksch AND Whiley AND still maintaining a first rounder? that's a serious win.

Weren't they likely to be at their original pick anyway?
Probably, but by moving up to #10 they now choose before Fremantle who are also likely to go tall with their first selection.
I'm basically just trying to provide hope to us poor West Coast supporters that Pickett or Weller could still make it to our pick.

Srsly?! Doggies just lost their captain and best player as well as 2 top 10 players for them, AND lost their coach. On top of that, they are paying $250k per season for the next 4 years to said ex-captain on top of paying a sooky mamma's boy 19y.o. $1m per year for the next 7 years in the hope he actually ever lives up to it (we'll see if Lyon is all over that every week and every f'ing doggies game). And they gave up pick 6 for this privelege too. The doggies are a laughing stock.

You forgot to add that Boyd has only played 8 games and kicked 10 goals .

My speculation for top 10 would now be:

10. Geel - Pickett

Do we want a key back at our pick?
Maybe Geelong decide that the key backs at pick 10 and too enticing to pass up on.
GWS could pick up Laverde at pick 4 knowing that Collingwood may be unlikely to pick Wright up at 5.
Would not be surprised if Geelong went for Goddard.

Have we ever actually initiated a trade for a big-name player? IIRC, Stenglein, Chick, Wellingham, Yeo... all basically flagged their desire to go home and THEN we managed to convince them to pick the Eagles.
