I don't understand how Collingwood screw everyone over in the trade period and everyone just smiles and agrees to it. No wonder they have a talented list. We need there recruiting staff!!

How do you know we wouldn't have?
Because we needed a ruckman even less than the teams that passed over him with the first 17 picks?

In fairness we did take Sinclair in the same offseason.
As a mature-age rookie selection, not with our first live pick.

What game is that? Russian roulett with 5 of the six chambers loaded?
OK, let's say the club has decided that pick 6 to pick 20 are much of a muchness, then there are another 10 after that considered better than the remainder of the field. The club also decides it wants Yeo but wants 2 picks inside the top 30, remembering that after 5 they don't care about the order. So, they keep 2 picks inside the 30 and get a player they were after.
If that doesn't satisfy your penchant for Russian roulette, then remember, if we take another pick in the draft it means another player has to be delisted. Does that help the bloodlust? :p

If that guy from Tasmania with the long name goes at 5, somebody slides. Who do you think it will be? I'm just going on what Quayle is predicting, and she's usually pretty good.
Firstly, I'd be stunned if someone took the Kalashnikov in the top 5, Darcy Gardiner more likely, but I don't think it will be Aish that slides. In fact, I'm near certain of it.

True. I'm inclined to agree with you - just playing devil's advocate like a dick.

I'm not overly upset with Vozzo's work until this point but 6 + 40 for 11 + 31 is a shafting.

What about 6 + 44 for 10 + Yeo? That's what it will end up.

In all seriousness I hope we don't have much interest in Koloshartnips. Doesn't really fill a need for us. I'm hoping it's one of Sheed or Acres. Gut feeling says Freeman gone @ 9.

Are we to presume that the reason we want Collingwood's second pick is to get ahead of Freo's second pick, and by extension Freo are willing to part with that pick for Yeo and Yeo is willing to go to Freo?

Only reason to budge from pick ~44 I think.

Perhaps you have hit unerringly on the only true explaination here. Our clubs recruiting staff cant differentiate between pick 5 and 20. Explains everything. o_O

I think with a squad that lacks top-end quality - we should be aiming to give ourselves the best opportunity of picking the best midfielder available. The idea that we've locked onto Sheed this early and are simultaneously aware that we don't need 6 to get him, is concerning. I personally would prefer to trade our second rounder (now 28) for Yeo and retain 6.

By doing this trade with Collingood and retaining our second rounder, we could get a reasonable talent to replace an extra player that needs to be delisted. Great. But I think the focus should be going after the best available 'elite' talent.

That didn't answer my question.
Didn't it?

I think it's highly unlikely we would have used a top-20 pick on a ruckman when we already have one AA ruckman who's, what, 24?, and another highly rated ruckman who's 21. Burning a high pick on a third young ruck would just be a waste.

Why do you think we would have taken him?
